James (Buddy)'s Story
After high school I went to Hofstra for a year and then Nassau Community College for a year. Shortly after I went into the US army for two years. I served in Vietnam for a short time where I injured my leg. After my military service, I worked three jobs while going to school part time. I joined the Westbury Fire Department because I felt I needed to help people and serve my community in some way. I rose through the ranks to become Captain of Hose Company 2. I was also one of the four original Emergency Medical Technicians and was instrumental in starting the Rescue Squad. I served for 22 plus years
I took the test to become a police officer and was offered several jobs. I chose the Port Washington Police Department and it was a good choice. I was an active police officer and I rose through the ranks there to become ...Expand for more
Captain, second in command to the Chief at the time. I retired in 2002 after 28 plus years.
After my retirement, I sold cars for a while.
Six years ago I became a chaplain for the Church of God. I guess the 'wild child' finally settled down.
Along the way I was married and divorced. My first marriage produced two wonderful boys. My oldest son just retired from the New York City Police Department after 25 years. My youngest son lives in North Carolina and works for an air conditioning supply company.
I have six grandchildren (five grandsons and one granddaughter), three from each of my boys.
I remarried in 1989 and I am approaching my 27th anniversary.
I spend about half my time in New York and the rest is spent between Florida and North Carolina.
Now it is about time to look for a place to settle down and relax.
