Kitty's Story

Life I am living in Kerrville, Texas, I own a house here with a partner which I now live in and a duplex in Corpus where my son, John, lives but I prefer liviing in n the RV park. I lived in Corpus Christi for over 30 years and got tired of the humid weather. Monty & I were full time RVers for 5 years but he died in 2005 while we were in Corpus Christi for the holidays with the kids. I returned to Kerrville in March of that year. I enjoy going to House Concerts, art galleries and openings, the theater (there are 3 live theaters here in Kerrville, a town of 21,000 people.) I also try to do whatever interests me at Schreiner University. It is a small (around 1000 students) that almost always has some interesting event going on that the general community is invited to. They also allow over 55 citizens to audit classes for $25 a credit hour. We have the most active Community Center here that has something happening every hour of the day and sometimes the night, including trips to areas both far and near. I am also Board Chair of a small non-profit (501c-3)(Art2Heart) which among other things runs leadership programs for children, teaching them leadership and responsibility thru the arts. As with most non-profits we are always looking for funds for our programs so if you know of any foundations that support children's educational activities, please get in touch with me. I would enjoy hearing from anyone who gratuated from HHS or AMA where my husband graduated in 1960. Kitty Purcell Ellis HHS, class of 1958 School I starteed Kindergarden in 1945 at Main Street School in Harrisonburg, Va. and graduated from HHS in 1958. The teachers there that inspired me most were Rosalind Trent who taught me Spanish and English and also taought me how to dream about travel, Carrie Showalter who taught me art and was a friend, and Mrs. McConne...Expand for more
ll.who taught me Sr. English. She told us the first day of class that NO ONE who passed her Sr. English class EVER failed freshman English in College. And I never met anyone who did. They were great teachers and I thank them. I had no idea at the time what wonderful teachers we had all during our school years. We were VERY LUCKY as most of our teachers had PHD's and were most inspiring. College I started going to what is now JMU in 1959. Spent a year there and met the man who was to become my husband in 1960. Had 1st child in 1961 in Harrisonburg, Va while husband was in training in Army, had 2nd child in 1962 in Heidleberg, W. German and 3rd in 1963 in same place. Discovered the Pope was not sending support checks each month so quit that. I attended University of Md, LSU, Del Mar College and Corpus Christi State University which is now Texas A&M Corpus Christ FINALLY graduating with a degree in Political Science in 1976. Took awhile but I finally did it. My kids where then in JR. High. Workplace I have worked as an Independent Petroleum Landpeson since 1981 and worked with the same group since 1983. I semi-retired in 2000 to full time RV with my husband who died in 2005. You are asking what on earth does this person do???? I do mineral title research in courthouses, negotiate Oil & Gas leases and do whatever is necessary to clean up a title to a piece of property should the client drill a successful well. These days, I mostly find missing mineral owners and negotiate and prepare leases for them. That I can do anywhere I can get on the internet and without going to a courthouse and standing for hours, lifting heavy books. I have enjoyed this job for 29 years and it is still fun. I have also done some travel writing when we were RVing and been published in one of the RV magazines, although I do not consider it work.
