Mickey's Story

We lived in what is now known as "Copper Canyon", South of Denton. I went, the first two years of school to "Double Oak School". Outsiders from the North/East sector of our great nation moved into the neighborhood and eventually had it closed down. That is when all us kids were split up between Lewiville. Argyle and Denton. My brother and I were put in Robert E. Lee grade school when it was over East of downtown Denton. I have one brother, Randy. He is now married with 2 kids, ages 16 and 7. My parents were self-employed. My Dad utilized his 10 acres to build chicken house, to cage layers and sell the eggs. I was told, at our heyday, we had over 30,000 chickens out there. Of course, good help was hard to find, but my brother and I went out there and worked anyway. My Dad worked his ass off. He hired people. They would come and go. Noone really wanted the job. duh. I didn't actually graduate in Denton. I was born there, and went to school there, but we moved in the summer between 10th and 11th grade. 1972. I wound up graduating in a school in Oklahoma with 41 seniors. The largest senior class ever, I was told. The Junior class that year had less than 20 kids. I went to a Jr. college about 30 miles from there for 1 year, then in the summer of 75 I moved back to Denton. I tried to find a few people. I sort of felt like a stranger in my own town. I worked a year , so I wouldn't have to pay out of state tuition, and went to N.T.S.U. off and on for about 3 years. I never graduated. After a year or two of a different job every week or two, I got on at Millard Heath. It was my first really stupid thing I did. I quit there after a year to go on the road with a band. That band stayed together less than a year. It did play a lot. The guy knew how to hustle, but it "played out". I jobbed around, had another band called "Santa Fe" that got sort of got well known in Denton. I met my best friend, and best man at all of my weddings, Robert, sometime around this time. When I say "job around" later in this, many times I was helping him, on remodels, new trim, framing repairs, concrete roofs...... you name it! I still work with him to this day, when I can, when he needs me....etc. Eventually, I moved to Lewisville.I worked as an Electrician for a few years. Jobbed around. One day, in 1990, while looking for a job, I called an ad for movers at a place in Lewiville. I did one job, and at the end of that day, I thought I would never do that again. But, the mon...Expand for more
ey was better than I was used to, which was none, and I was only 34, and in good health. I worked there for 5 years, and still had time to play in my band, which had gotten together just prior to that. That Band lasted about 15 years. I started my own moving co. and 1995, and It lasted until 2005. I was married in 1992 to a girl I met on a dating service.Lisa. She was 7 years younger than me. She was diabetic. She got in the apartment leasing business, and the moving co, "Mickey D's Movers", flourished. I hired her Mom to answer the phone, and we did pretty good for a few years. In August, 2004 she passed away from the diabetes. It broke my heart, as I am sure we have all suffered great losses in our lives by this time. It was about six months later, in 2005, I was playing at a private party for our guitar players sister. I saw one of his other sisters, Lin, who I had known since the origination of my association with him in 1988 or so. We got to talking and soon were dating. We were married in October of 2006. She is the love of my life and my partner. She is a beatiful person who supports me in every way she can. She has one child, Cassie. Smart, attractive girl. She is married to Scott. Almost everything in my life has changed. My wife's brother, the guitar player, will not talk or associate with us, so that band is over. I am now in the best band I have ever been in. We are called "The Intangibles".Here comes (plug the band}---. I think this band is going to last a few years, if we can keep us all alive. We just started playing out but are being asked to return, In about a year, or so, we should have some original music recorded. Now here comes (plug the business}---- we have started a pest control company. I am a Cerified Applicator. We have a certified applicator/entomoligist on staff. We are dedicated to using enviromentally sound procedures to implement pest control. I have been working with other pest control companys over the past year, and learning the ropes. Well, I could go on forever. I have done a lot of differant things. There have been a lot of funny things and some sad things. There have been lucky breaks, and some bad breaks. I don't care about taking myself serious. I do, however, take what I do very serious. Lin will tell you that I am panicky if I think I am going to be late, for example. I believe that I still have a lot of good life ahead, especially with such a devoted and trusting wife as I am blessed with.
