Ellis's Story

Life Warmest greetings to friends and acquantances from the far-reaches of high school and college days. My artist and homemaker wife Wendi and I are celebrating our 38th anniversary this year. Yes, she's still putting up with me and I love her dearly for it. We live in Richmond, VA and have been here for 20 years. Our children are [mostly] grown. We have three beautiful daughters-- the oldest is living in and working out of Charleston SC, the next is in her early-thirties and works in property management here in Richmond, and the youngest is 24 (I still can't wrap my head around that one) and will soon celebrate her third? wedding anniversary. We have one son, 27, who is married and they [still] plan to launch to their own apartment before their next anniversary in the Fall. I have been working in IT for the lion's-share of my career from Chattanooga to Holland, MI. I am currently the data warehouse manager at the Virginia Dept. of Social Services. I pretty much devote my time and energy to home, work, and church with not much left for other pursuits. I still find my bliss spending time with those I love, throwing frisbee (I wish), enjoying great music and food, and being in the mountains or on the beach. I found a year or so ago that I am a Grand Strand, ocean-front, 6th-floor balcony kind of guy. For those who knew me when, it may be strange to learn that I am active in priesthood service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The blessings of being a husband and father and discovering the truthfulne...Expand for more
ss of the gospel of Jesus Christ have been the most significant and wonderful things to happen in my life! I have learned for myself that The Book of Mormon is the word of God and a faithful witness of the Redeemer of the world and for the Holy Bible. I know that God our Heavenly Father has provided a glorious plan for the happiness of his children and that the Atonement of Christ and families are at the heart of that plan. I know that Joseph Smith, Jun. was a true prophet of God and that the Church of Jesus Christ is led by a living prophet, Russell M. Nelson, and fourteen other Apostles today. When all is said and done, I know that the things of eternal significance--like learning to live the gospel of Jesus Christ, family, and loving and serving others--are the only things that really count. The challenge of life thus lies in one of my favorite quotes: "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing." It has become clear to me that we are nearer to the Second Coming of Christ than I had before suspected. The branches of the fig tree are indeed putting forth green leaves not a few. It is high time to board the good ship Zion and be faithful in the great cause of the Master. He is the way, the only way, the truth and the life. All that he and the Father do is for our happiness. Let us repent and humbly serve him at this crucial point in the history of God's dealings with his children on earth. We will not be ashamed or confounded and will enjoy his constant protecting care. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
