Eloise's Story
I've worked as an accountant since 1977 and became a CPA in 1999.
Somehow I've ended up working in nonprofits; it's been nineteen years and three organizations--clearly a pattern! I'm now the controller for an organization that provides special education for severely emotionally disturbed children, as well as outpatient mental health services and residential care through group homes and foster care.
I've been divorced for several years. My ex-husband's doctoral program is what brought me to Baltimore from Little Rock. It was going to be a two-year side trip, and that was 1988.
I am still singing--I've been in a chuch choir somewhere since I was ten. I expected that to be a lifetime thing, and so far it is. What is a surprise to me is that I've worked...Expand for more
my way up to singing choral music regularly with the Baltimore Symphony.
I still own my high school clarinet but haven't picked it up in years. I think if I had a do-over, I would have majored in music and become a symphony musician, a bassoonist. I thought if you majored in music, you had to become a band director to make a living. When Mr. Allen put me in a practice room for a semester in high school to learn the bassoon, I hated it because it felt like I was starting over. I still struggle with that--preferring not to do a thing at all if I can't do it well right away.
For the most part, I don't wish for do-overs. I have satisfying work and good friends, and I live in interesting times. I hope the same thing for you, and I hope you'll be in touch.
