Emagrace's Story
Life NOTE: I now have 6 grandsons and I granddaughter, however that granddaughter and her husband have given me two Great Granddaughters, who are just beautiful, and a Great Grandson who is such a live wire (age 3) he is known in two different churchs by everyone! I am now known as Austin's Grandma Nana! And I'm loving it!!!!!! He sees me sitting in the church while he is up with the children's group, and he calls out in a very loud voice "Hi, Nana!" or says "Hi, Rick"!, my Gentleman friend who attends with me.
Then in this past May one of my Grandsons and his partner presented us with another Great Grandson! Such fun having "Greats" at this age while I can still spoil them.!
Love being retired! But, I grew bored, and went back to work part time! I had every girl's dream job, of working in a jewelry store part time! That was really a fun part time job. This is a family owned store, and they support several of the charities that I have been involved with, so I am happy to work for them! Lots of fun to wear really nice jewelry!(valved over $20,000) Owners son came back to work so I am out, that is a good thing, I nearly owed them more than I made!
As I said “flunked retirement “, working for a music store in Blue Springs that specializes in band and orchestra instruments now. Plus lessons in nearly all band and orchestra instruments. . No, you can breathe again, you past Grant band members, I AM NOT TEACHING ANY LESSONS!
Just working the counters taking in instruments for repairs and answering the phones. The store has been in business 55 years and they have two other stores in the Kansas City area. I'm in the Blue Springs store where we alone give over 500 lessons in piano, band and orchestra instruments a week. Very interesting place!
Except for this Pandemic, I would still be at the hospital as a volunteer! Ruined my 30 year run as a volunteer! Oh, I am still a volunteer at the hospital in the Wound and Hyperbaric Center but only when they need me, not full time anymore.
Sold the 63 Corvair Monza convertible, two,of my six Grandsons are not too happy with me right now. But I was not driving it enough! It went to a good home!
Enjoy having several of you coming to KC to visit. There is always room for one or two couples to stay! Love this area!!

ompleted the $1 Million Dollar Capital Campaign at the hospital in the 2year time frame! We were excited that we did it in the short time limit! Especially in this economy! Don't think I will co-chair a fund raiser like that again! Well, at least I am not co-chairman, but I am working on a 6 million dollar campaign, for Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity now. It runs for onemore years! We have raised 5.5 million so far....have to work harder!
As I have now reached my goal of visiting all 50 states plus DC. And Puerto Rico, I now have to start expanding my international trips! Through my work I had already visited several countries, and have now totaled 20 different countries. But my bucket list still has Ireland and Scotland, Germany and Italy on it....UPDATE. Added with the jewelry store just before I left was able to attend a Jewelry show in Hong Kong. This was a about two weeks before they started having problems over there!
Workplace. Updated at the end of work place
Employed at Haldex Brake Products Corporation for over 28 years. The first employee hired when they opened their plant here in the states. It is a Swedish owned Corporation. Have enjoyed travel to Sweden, France, England, Australia and China, besides travel to our Canadian sales office also. Office Manager and Controller are the titles I have held. Plan on retiring in June 2009. Oops...made it a few months earlier! Actually retired the 1st of December 2008. And the timing couldn't have been better...guess the economy is hitting everyone, everywhere! In the past if there have been tough times we always cut back to 3 day work week for everyone...and no lay offs, but heard they laid off over 50 people in the plant and office. I would not have been happy about that! So glad I wasn't around to handle the fall out........ update....HALDEX closed the plant I had worked at the summer of 2020. Moved all production to Mexico! One manufacturing plant politics could do nothing about. Swedish owned, no holds to the USA. So they moved, heard they did not treat the plant employees who had been there 30 plus years well at all.. SHAME on them!
