Emily's Story
After high school I attended Fullerton Junior College and majored in Business. I graduated in 1962 and began working for North American Aviation (later North American Rockwell, Rockwell, then Boeing.) I really enjoyed my work and appreciated everything I learned. I started working in Contracts and was in Program Management when I resigned in 1974.
In 1964 I married Earl Potter. Earl was in law enforcement. We enjoyed the families that we met and they remained life friends. Wonderful memories.
Earl and I have two children. Our son, Jim, was born in 1970 and our daughter, Karen, was born in 1973. Being a mother was awesome for me. I loved each and every phase of their lives.
In 1976 we moved to Little Rock, AR. Earl was from AR and felt that he would like to raise our children here. It was a very difficult transition for me. I loved...Expand for more
CA. It took me about two years to really like my life here. I learned to find the things here that would make me happy. I love the seasons, the people, the casual lifestyle, the focus on home and family, southern food, my church, and I loved my job.
I worked for a small company doing military and space contracts. It was a perfect match for my skills. I was employed there for 31 years. In a small company you have many jobs, but primarily I was the Security Officer.
Earl had to medically retire in 1991. He died in June 2007. I had planned to retire in November 2007, and after his death I decided to stay with that plan.
I have three granddaughters and one grandson. I am happily enjoying retirement. After working all of my adult life, it is wonderful to have some freedom. The best part is Sunday night. I don't have to set my alarm!!
