Emily Peck:

CLASS OF 1973
Missoula, MT

Emily's Story

My story--certainly nothing I could write the next great American novel about! I headed to Kalispell in 1973 to attend FVCC--married in 1974 (MUCH too young). 1975-earned an Associates Degree in Business/Mktg and went to work for the First Bank System in Bozeman. 1978--quit working to raise a family. I have 2 wonderful daughters, both grown and married with babies of their own (YES--I'm a grandmother--don't have a clue how that happened in such a short time). Now, how do I say this without sounding vindictive--after 18 years of marriage, my husband decided to trade me in on a younger model (who subsequently dumped him! Aint life grand) I re-enrolled in school at UM and received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. During this time I met the real love of my life-Norm. We spent 5 years in Spokane (AAAAGGGHHH!!!) where I earned my Master's Degree in School Guidance Counseling at Whitworth College--(does anyone remember our counselor's name---that blonde guy down by the nurse's office??) For the past 6 years I've been a counselor at Polson High School--a job I truly love. These kids are awesome! Somedays I think I went through hell to land in heaven! Norm and I are building a house this summer on the moraine overlooking Flathead ...Expand for more
Lake. We put on the Mutt & Jeff show everywhere we go--he's 6'6" and I'm just a hair over 5"3". Needless to say, we DON'T dance. Both of my girls live in Missoula, so I get to visit (aka spoil) the grandbabies often. In my spare time I love to read or knit, Norm and I hike whenever we can, and I'm always looking for an opportunity to go fishing with my Dad. We used to love road trips, but the cost of fuel is putting the brakes on that leisure activity. I'm a rabid Griz football fan--season tickets on the 50-yard line. Guess I'm not much of a "girly" girl. Confession---I didn't really enjoy highschool very much. The classes were good, teachers were mostly okay, social life was miserable. In retrospect, I think I was a nerd--many thanks to those of you who liked me anyway! I tell kids everyday that life after highschool will be great!! It will be whatever they want to make of it. I do, however, enjoy reconnecting with old friends. I've discovered that the best friends are those who endured the transition from childhood to adulthood-right along with you-love my St. Anthony's girlfriends. Just so you all know--my goofy pepclub Spartan head adorns my office bulletin board---there are a few Big Sky alum on staff here--it drives them CRAZY!!
