Emma's Story

I have lived in the Rio Grande Valley, Alamo, Tx and seven miles from the Mexico border for about 37 years and moved there a few years after graduation from high school. This is my place of birth, and lived as a child, attended school here and in Plainview. My family would migrated to plainview lived there seven months and went back for five months to the valley. As growing up we decided to stay in Plainview. I still have relatives living in Plainview, and I visited twice a year, Christmas Holidays and in the summer. I have worked in Edinburg, tx. CISD and pharr-sanjuan-alamo ISD for about thirty years. While working at the school , enjoyed participated in schools activities, such as being a sponsor for the drill team, it was very rewarding, working and helping elementary students. Later became the coordinator of my own drill team and we participated in local parades. I graduated from South Texas College, and earned my degree in the development of early childhood education and teaching. I am very active in the community, Mainly working with children, and adults and do volunteer work . I have lived and work in areas I never thought of as growing up. It has been a privileged to have lived and worked in Billings, Montana, Palm Springs, California, and Sterling, Illinois. As we journeyed on to college, careers, marriage, and family, our life takes on a whole new meaning and attitudes. I grew up as a Catholic, we didn't share our beliefs, as I looked back, I realized, it was mostly due to ignorance and...Expand for more
fear. Faith has always been part of our life as growing up. Upon moving to South Texas, I became very active in my Parish. I have come to renew myself in many areas of the Catholic faith and have been vigorously active with the prayer group, such as in the renewal of the Holy Spirit and religious education program . Served in several ministries at my Parish and have been a Catechist for thirty years, Mainly working with adults on the teaching and beliefs of the Catholic faith, RCIA. I have worked very closed with others parishioners on projects such as festival, committees, sponsor, coordinator, retreats, and coordinator of the children's liturgy performance. I have been very productive in many areas of my life, in the community, in my parish, at work, personal life, and with children and adults. I have enjoyed the journey and it's very fulfilling and satisfied what I have accomplished in working with children, and adults. I reflect on my before and after, Charles Dickens once wrote, "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom." high school memories are the most beautiful times of our youth, we will always cherished the times, the friends we grew up with and it will always be part of our life. Our life is a journey and we move on. Dr. Suess says it ."Don't cry, because it's over, SMILE, because it happened." I have appreciated my life, what I have done and accomplished, and how I have lived my life and I am very grateful, and satisfied with the outcome.
