Eric's Story
I have become a pretty interesting guy. In the last 35 years I have had quite a lot of time to get into trouble, truth, and tyrannical debacles. During this adventure that I call life, I believe I am beginning to discover my true self. I amEric of the Blue! Blue signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice as represented in our flag. I say this not only because my favorite color is blue; I wish to imply, that my life is as adventurous as that of Eric the Red.
As a child I was diagnosed as having ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder / Hyperactivity). My eyes where always white with wonder. As you can imagine I was well, quite a whirlwind of not so lovable joy. I was rather creative and artistic though. I believe these traits made me somewhat bearable.
My teenage years have proven to be somewhat more distressful. My discovery of independence sent me on a spiral that not only went downward; it spun out in every conceivable direction. I learned to utilize my sense of humor to both gain approval and disproval. I had become adept at being the center of attention. My sometimes criminal escapades earned me a reputation second to none. I was the ultimate rebel!
As an adult I continued on my totally oblivious course of direction for several years; however, involving considerably less incarceration. At age 24 I had a notion in my head that I should join the US ARMY! I thought that I should spend some time serving our beautiful country and that I might just learn something along the way." God Bless America" At this point my life dramatically begins to change. Apparently as much as I ha...Expand for more
ted authority; I needed structure. Believe it or not I was a great soldier, a paratrooper, a rank and file guy, running off into the dawn wishing I wasn't on a 5 mile run.
The most important lessons that I learned while in the military where teamwork, responsibility, accountability and work ethic. I was excelling for the fist time, and had become a well decorated soldier very rapidly. My hunger for approval was driving me towards excellence, well as close as you can get to it.
In exchange for my diligence and fortitude I was given some wonderful and honorable opportunities. My most memorable as well as admirable experience was being a part of a burial detail. This was and is to this one of the most important military honors afforded unto our ranks. We six crisply fold with gentle love each and every step of the way, until we are done on behalf of a grateful nation. I will never forget the crack of the 3 rounds I fired into the christened air. In honor of the ones who fell and the families left to start and stare. The last salute and bitter song of the bugles distant call. The tears of mourning, joy and reverence fall on hallowed ground. There are no words that could aptly describe this feeling but this is as close as I can come.
Over the years I have done many things. I've flown, and marched across the world round. I crashed a restaurant into the ground with little left to show. I am now a husband with a beautiful little wonder boy tagging along in tow. I do not wish to gage my life merely upon a hue, but to all of my friends you may simply call me "Eric of the Blue".
