Eric's Story

Life Graduated from Hastings College in 1984 went on to get a PhD at Ohio State in Medical Biochemistry (finished 1989). Spent time in San Diego in pharmaceutical industry chasing others' rainbows, left to chase my own rainbows as an Asst. Res. Prof. at Texas A & M. Good music and good friends in Texas, but I ain't no Aggie. Just finished a position at the National Institute of Aging in Bethesda, MD where I was a National Research Council Senior Fellow. After turning down some interesting places where it is warm (LSU, UofG, UNL), we moved this August (2000) to Grand Forks, ND. We love it here cold, clean air, cold, clean water, cold, good schools, and did I mention cold. I am now an Assoc. Prof in the Medical School with a research emphasis on brain and heart lipid metabolism. I am editor-in-chief of Lipids, an international journal, giving me the title of the big cheese and the guy that sometimes is the prick. I also serve as CSO of a small biotech based in Cincinnati, although our labs are in Helsinki. So I travel a fair bit and have seen a whole lot of the world. Married Cindy in 1983 and she is a Hastings native. She has put up with me going on 26 years, which probably has earned her a gold medal. She has moved all over the country, from Columbus to San Diego to Washington DC and now to Grand Forks. We have 3 kids. Cameron is 23, played ball in college and is a very good ice hockey goalie and a new hockey...Expand for more
ref. He graduated with a degree in chemistry and is working on his Ph.D. at Texas A&M. Sean is 13 and lettered this year in wrestling although he just finished 7th grade. In ND you have 6 years of varsity eligibility and he'll use all six. He has started wrestling on the national stage and made the ND national team last year, but came up short this year. He does great in school and should be our next science guy. He plays ball and did well this year, leading the 7th grade team in tackles. Well then there is Catherine who is now 10 and soon to be 11. She does the dance thing with the ND Ballet Company and rhythmic gymnastics, neither of which am I encouraged to yell like at Sean's wrestling. She tried wrestling this year and did ok. Good solid student and very creative. She wants to be a veterinarian. I am a certified referee for ice hockey and play quite a bit still, although the guys are only getting younger. I used to coach goal tenders and teams through Bantam, but my busy life and 8 months of Sean's wrestling keeps me on the go. Give me a call at 701-792-0458 h or 701-777-3450. To Russ, hey I remember Ted the Head (dried up cat head), that was a weight man thing. We did have fun, but it all keeps on movin on down the line. Still listen to Jerry Jeff Walker, Waylon, added Robert Earl Keen, Robison brothers, Lyle Lovette (a good friends neighbor), Guy Clark, Reckless Kelly. Catch ya'll later. Murph
