Eric's Story
Hmmm, how to describe all that I am and have been in a nutshell. Well, I guess all my travels through life have led me through an artistic lonely side to an adventurous side where I am now. I spent 10 years after high school doing some soul searching and trying out various work roles. I fought forest fires in California, worked as a ranch hand on a large 25,000 acre ranch in northern NM, went back to Santa Fe and worked in a clothing store as a buyer and managed the mens department (and had horrible dreams of being a little old man and never accomplishing any of the things that pulled on my dream strings). I finally decided to go to college after 10 years intermission to major in art. I got accepted in Northern Arizona University's art program but on my first day I got a bad case of tunnel vision. Art had been my whole life up 'till then and I had so much more that I wanted to know. So, just like that, I switched my major to geology. I was so hungry for knowledge that I ended up getting two minors along with it -- biology and remote sensing. I found ways to use my art along the way doing scientific illustration for some of my professors.
My activities have evolved through the years as well. I've loved a...Expand for more
lpine skiing since I was in 8th grade and still find it a passion. I'm part of the National Ski Patrol, am a senior patroller, and am one of the lead instructors training our new patrol candidates with skiing and toboggan handling. I'm also very passionate about whitewater kayaking and travel all over the country hitting class IV/V rivers. I'm also an ACA certified whitewater instructor. And my newest passion is mountain biking. Love it!! My wife is just as passionate about all three sports, which is handy for me because I get to do them more often. She's a snowboarder though, oh well, but she's right there with me as we drop down the steeps and deep and rip through the moguls.
I envy those of you who chose to take a chance and start businesses of your own. I work for our government. I like what I do and I've done well with it but I secretly wish I had pursued a path of more independence.
I love animals. I think the natural world all around us has a hard enough time surviving without us being unnecessarily careless with their lives. I care! And I'm lucky, my wife is just as passionate as I am in almost every way.
That's me in a rather large nutshell. A lot of living in those years since high school.
