Eric's Story

Life After graduating from college, I lived and worked in Sacramento for about 3-4 years as a Civil Engineer. The 5 minute commute was great, as I lived just around the corner from the office. After about 4 years of CA heat and air quality, I ventured to the Northwest because the grass is greener in Seattle. I love it up here as I have the mountains and the Puget Sound all within 30 minutes of each other. I still haven't run out of places to see and things to do. Family wise, I settled down and had my first daughter three days prior to my 30th birthday, so I made it just under the wire. My second daughter was born two years later, and they both keep me very busy. They are growing up so fast and I am just trying to keep up with the pace so I don't miss anything. The oldest has now graduated from high school and is venturing off to college. Hard to believe I am that old now. Health wise, we have been fortunate. There have not been any serious illnesses or tragedies befallen the Scott household. The Mrs. has been getting into the natural food section at the grocery store to keep the fam healthy, which for the most part has been ok, except for some bark-like substance that pops up in the grocery bag every once in awhile. Of course, the boys night out with grilled meat, chips, and frothy beverages level the playing field. What the future holds for me is anyone's guess, except for my wife of course who has my social calendar booked out for the decade with home improvement projects and travel. I look forward to the adventure and the surprises around every corner. Feel free to drop me a line sometime, 2004TFR...Expand for more
{at} gmail {dot} com College After PHS I went on to Chico State for a Civil Engineering degree. With the first 5 years being so much fun I decided to continue the academic life with a graduate program at Sacramento State. After that I felt I knew everything and could safely impart my knowledge on others; which anecdotally was something started as a teenager living at home with my family, but with limited results. Workplace I have founded a firm in Arlington, TerraVista NW Consulting Engineers, and am enjoying being the boss rather than answering to one. I work primarily with site development and public works. If you see buildings going up on a campus near you, stop by and look down. The sidewalk with the gum on it may be courtesy of yours truly. I also do the geeky engineering stuff under the ground with buried piping and stormwater management. The wildest thing I worked on was the Experience Music Project in Seattle, a product of Frank Gehry and Assoc Architects. Their claim to fame includes the Guggenheim Museum and the amphitheater in Chicago's Millennium Park. I don't think they know what a right angle is. The entire project was designed and constructed with computer models. The contractor did use some paper documents, but for the most part was built from looking at a computer screen. If you are ever passing by Broomfield, Colorado stop by the Flatiron Crossing Mall. That is another signature Eric Scott site design, at least for the sidewalk and buried utilities. The froofy architectural stuff on top of the sidewalks is the landscape architect's doing. I also had a hand in the Amazon waterfall in the back.
