Eric's Story
Life
Since High School, I spent a short stint (2.5 years) at Rutgers, and then got a job at Merck and Co., in Rahway, NJ. I spent 28 years there, before taking an early retirement in June of 2007. I got in early on Computer Technology, and finished my tenure there managing the Scientific and High Performance Computing department for Merck Research Labs. I also spent the last 14 years doing level and architecturally-based design for some well known computer games, such as "Unreal", "Half-Life - Opposing Force", and "Star Trek DS9 The Fallen". I was married for 23 years, divorced in 2006. I haven't heard from or talked to anyone from EBHS in well over 25 years, so if you feel like it, get in touch. :-) If not, well, then it won't be any different than it is now. I Never did leave NJ. Sad, but I actually love this state.
College
College was like a blur to me now, in retrospect. I changed schools, and majors, and ended up as a commuter, studying something I thought was practical. It ended up being hugely boring and a complete waste of my time and money. I ended up leaving to take a good job. Knowing what I know now, I would have done things much differently, like choose to study something I love, instead of something that would provide better job opportunities. I can't even remember a...Expand for more

Re: Classmates Intro- "Share your career arc"....that's pretty funny.
Started as a trainee in computer operations. 28 years later, I managed a team of systems experts in support of a high performance research datacenter. There wasn't so much of an arc as a gentle curve. I learned a lot in almost 3 decades. Mostly about people. Never confuse coworkers with friends. That's my takeaway lesson.

Well, it was funny to come and read this story, after the events of the last couple years. Fast-Forward to 2008. I did update the above to be more relevant.
I am divorced for almost 2 years now. When asked why, my usual response is: "My ex-wife and her boyfriend thought it was for the best".
The house is long gone, and I've gone through some incredibly tumultuous times. I am in a new job, after taking early retirement from my old one. I now work for SGI, as a systems engineer. It's a complete change in career, but very enjoyable.
I live with my daughter in a 3BR Townhouse, while my son lives with his grandparents.
I've had to start over with everything, and I'm taking life as it comes. Retirement is no longer in the picture, but I think I'm going to enjoy my new career.
