Erin's Story

I am happily married with two wonderful children in college. I became an attorney in 2001 and recently opened my own practice. I love practicing law because I get to help people with their problems. My family moved to Irvine in my junior year at FVHS; therefore, I did not graduate from FVHS. However, since I went to school in FV since 6th grade, I left more friends behind than I made at Uni High in Irvine. Too bad we didn't have internet years ago. Perhaps, it would have been easier to keep in touch. After HS graduation, I attended Pepperdine at Malibu and had a blast! Money ran out, however, and I tried to transfer to UC Irvine. I lacked one class so I enrolled at Saddleback to complete it. I met and married my ex-husband and dropped out of college completely. We moved to Catalina Island and then back to the mainland. Our marriage had really big highs and really low lows (I discovered years later that it was due to his secret drug abuse). I gave it my best shot and stayed married to him for 10 years. The two best things about that marriage are my son and daughter. I eventually got divorced and went back to college. He left the state and our lives. He died in 2007 due to heavy drug use. I should have given up men after my divorce , but I am a sucker for romance. Dated a passionate but crazy guy for a brief period. However, rebound relationships never work. I found true love soon after. He has been the love of my life for almost 20 years. We eventually married. He makes my lunch and cooks dinner every day. He makes me laugh and has supported me in my endeavors to be a successful lawyer. I am a balanced person because of him. He is an ideal step-father and is as spiritual as I am. My children are 23 and 20 and attend college. They both are studying to become teachers. Of all the things I have done, these two are my greatest accomplishments. They are far more focused that I ever was at that age and are not letting the boyfriend/girlfriend thing stop them from achieving their education goals. Check out my photos, my daughter looks like I did in HS. Can you believe that the hospital switched her with another baby and she went home with another family? Because she looked so much like me even as a newborn, I noticed right away that I had the wrong baby and got her back. Before I married my current husband, I completed my college education. age Studies (with a concentration in Spanish) at UC Santa Cruz. What a beautiful place, reminds me of So Cal before all the people came. Our on-campus apt had an ocean view and we hiked the mountains, explored caves, walked the beaches, and rode the rides at the Boardwalk as often as we could. My family would say it was the best place we ever lived. I think I agree. The OC has nothing on it. I was accepted to UOP's law school in Sacramento, got my JD and passed the state bar. I worked for a nationally recognized tax law firm for about 5 years. I couldn't (wouldn't) compete in the corporate world and left the firm. I briefly worked for several small law firms and then finally got the experience (and bravery) to open my own firm. I primarily practice family law, but also take on tax cases (IRS) and bankruptcy cases. Check out my website, just "google" my name: Erin Sullivan-Pico. I have not kept in contact with any former classmates and am curious about where they are and how they are doing. Dawn Fish found me and I hope to hear from others as well. I am all about networking. I don't know how anyone else feels, but because FVHS was so big, we got cheated out of an education. Penhall's history class was a joke. I left FVHS with a 4.0 and never had to apply critical thinking skills. It's a wonder I can even write this grammatically. In junior high and high school, I was a nerd. However, it was all about preservation, baby! Doing too much too fast was going to make me too old too soon. Slow and steady wins the race. I still sing and enjoy listening to all types of music. I am still somewhat shy and laugh about everything. I don't take things as seriously as I used to. I still struggle with my weight but maintain it with regular gym workouts and by eating good food. After HS, I discovered that starving yourself to be as thin as others is not worth the toll it takes on your body. Outside of the OC, I found that being curvy was a good thing and have learned not to hide or be embarrassed about them. I wasted far too much time focusing on trying to look like Paris Hilton when I was built more like Jennifer Lopez. I should have never listened to classmates' comments. I was affirmed, however, when Sir Mix-a-lot came out with "Baby Got Back." (Ha! Ha! Ha!) I am glad those years are over and never want to go back. However, I am curious about others. If you remember me, please let me know how you are doing!
