Erma's Story
I recently retired from Human Resources Management and Corporate Training, which I did for 25 years. I also had an overlapping career as a specialty cake baker, which I have continued to do. I also do part time editing/writing for corporate clients.
My husband of almost 39 years and I recently sold our home, in which we lived for 37 years, and moved into a condominium. We currently live in the "Museum Square" area of Los Angeles. We live in an adjacent block that hosts the L.A. County Museum of Art, the Craft and Folk Art Museum, the La Brea Tar Pits/ Page Museum, the Broad Museum of Contemporary Art and the Peterson Automotive Museum, as well as the L.A. County Childrens Museum. The area is also referred to as the "Miracle Mile District" and everything you'd want or need is within walking distance. We're so happy that we don't have to manage all of the necessities that a house requires.
It gives us the freedom to travel and we love to go to Hawaii. I have 3 children, one of whom recently married and lives in Philadelphia. My husband still works part time as the Director of Security at Hillcrest Country Club. He retired after 34 years as a Detective with L.A.P.D.
We love L.A. and wouldn't live anywhere else. I've been here for 46 years and consider myself a Transplanted Californian. The weather is so perfect, we get a sea breeze where we live, and th...Expand for more
e beach and the mountains are only a short distance away. Where else can you surf and snow ski on the same day?
There's so much to do here and I enjoy the diversity of the people and different cultures. I love museums, concerts, theatre and movies so L.A. is the place to enjoy all of these in weather in which you rarely need to wear a jacket unless you're going into air conditioning. The huge variety of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment events make L.A. such a unique place in which to live. I had to buy a new trenchcoat to go to London in because the one I had had slowly disintegrated from nonuse.
I have such great memories of high school, even after all of this time. I'm curious as to what happened to all of the people I knew. I did participate in the Directory that was recently published but not everyone else did. I'm interested in corresponding with others from our class, so if you read this and want to drop me a note, pleae do so. I'd love to know how everyone's life turned out.
Who knows if anyone will read this? It's different to write like this to "somewhere" about your life that's different from writing your resume or professional bio. But "somewhere" out there maybe there is someone who remembers me. Perhaps you feel as old as dinosaur bones like I do and high school was a long time ago. I guess I'll try this and see what happens.
