Esther's Story

Life What to put in a bio? I've rewritten what I originally put here because my life has totally changed since I first wrote my bio back in 2003; and, it's seemingly recreating itself monthly. I'm divorced now. I learned a lot from my marriage so I don't reget starting or ending it. I respect any couple who can learn to be Happily married -- emphasis on capital H for being truly happy and staying married. Marriage takes a lot of inner growth, compromise, sharing and communication to work well. Besides my marriage and divorce, other siginificant changes relate to my daughter who graduated from Spelman in '04, moved to NY and is living in Brooklyn. She finished her Masters from Hunter College in 2009. She is my crowning achievement. I've gone back to school and graduated in Sept. of '06. I passed my National Certification Exam in Massage Therapy in Dec. of '06. So, I'm adding massage therapy to my line of work. My goal is to create a whole-life wellness practice focusing on bodywork, life design, and spirituality -- combining body, life and soul work. School OK -- here are my answers to Classmates.com's questions such as "Who was my biggest crush and who were my favorite teaches, etc." The biggest crush I ever had was during Jr. High. I felt like I was the luckiest girl in the world fo him to be in every one of my crush's classes (except gym, of course). Because of where he lived, he did not go to Muir -- sigh! I'll never forget the day I went into the office and looked on the map to see which school we'd be bussed to depending on where we lived -- HE was in the office that day too and broke the news that he wasn't going to Muir but to PHS instead! I was crushed (no pun intended)! Oh well . . . I had another crush in HS and he turned into my boyfriend for a couple of years. My two favorite teachers were Mr. Lyles and Mr. Gagnon (sp?). Mr. Lyles was the greatest teacher. All us band members need to get together and write a movie script about our years in band. A lot of crazy things went down. I can't believe all the mornings we were out there marching in the cold practicing before school started. There's so much to...Expand for more
say about those years..... Hi to Lana and ALL the other flute players! More later about band. I also loved the John Muir Drummers!!! Out of all the drum sections, Blair and PHS, John Muir's was the best! I got all teary-eyed when the drummers played at the reunion. There's another movie waiting to be made! Mr. Gagnon was great too. I had him for both French and Biology. He had me cracking up all the time yet he really knew his stuff so I learned a lot and had fun too. I was really sad to hear that he passed away. One of the best times I had was Senior Ditch Day when a group of us went to the park. First it was boring then a couple of friends and I decided to try and find something fun to do. I remember that Betty Gains, Lloyd Lane, (maybe others?) and I drove into the mountains and were shocked to find snow! We parked the car, rolled down the hills and threw snowballs at each other. We had a blast! I'll always remember that day. So sorry that Lloyd passed! He was a really nice guy. Here's a shout out to all my girls on JM's first Varsity Cheerleading squad -- Terri, Betty, Michelle, Karen and Shiela (Yo! to everyone on the Varsity Pep Squad too, especially Audrey--who is Nailah now). It was great to see Michelle at our last reunion. It was the first time she's come to a reunion and we were all in tears hugging her. Shiela and Betty where were you? You don't have to write me and tell me how AWFUL we were. I know we were misfits but we had a lot of fun making fools of ourselves! I'll never forget the day Karen tripped me and I went flying across the stage (or was it across the gym floor?!) in front of the entire student body! I felt like Charlie Brown when he does something stupid and the entire school breaks out laughing HAAAA! HAAAA! HAAAAAAAAAA! Maybe that's another thing I regret -- but -- looking back on it -- it was pretty funny, I have to admit. Karen and I laugh about it to this day. Well, I've used up nearly all of my 4,000 characters so I'll end my description of my years at John Muir by quoting Charles Dickens' “A Tale of Two Cities,” “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”
