WORK EXPERIENCE:
As Dr. Ãthelle G. Lord, I am presiding as the Founder of the International Caregivers Association (ICA). After earning a Masterâs of Education in Counseling from the University of Maine at Orono in 1992, I also earned a Dotorate of Management in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix in 2010. For two terms I served as president of the Maine Gerontological Society in the State of Maine in the 90âs and worked as a professor of Organizational Behavior at several universities.
I authored the first Alzheimerâs primer entitled How in the Worldâ¦and Now What Do I Do? The primer is conveniently available in English, Spanish, French and also soon in Arabic. Because the primer covers only the very essential points to know with Alzheimer, a Psychologist, Dr. John Carter, in New York refers to the primer as his Alzheimerâs Bible. It is available to download at icareassoc (dot)com
My first book, ALZHEIMER AND DEMENTIA COACHING: Taking a Systems Approach to Creating an Alzheimer/Dementia-Friendly Health Care Workforce, is being published by Tate Publishing and released fall 2015. Alzheimer and Dementia Coaching contains all areas of coaching both families and professio...Expand for more
nals in the field of dementia care with a complete index and references section at the end of the book.
My second book, NATURAL RHYTHM IN DEMENTIA: A metaphysical healing experience, will be available late in 2016. This book will expose the true gifts of Alzheimer and dementia. All those living with Alzheimer are in fact protected souls and here to teach us something about our existence as humans, especially the value of the present.
I am married to Maj. Larry S. Potter, USAF retired. He was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia in January 2003 following his triple bypass surgery in 1999. I have been his âpack leaderâ since 1999 to present. Early in this caregiving journey I realized the urgency for a change in the way dementia care is designed and delivered to care receivers. Furthermore, I realized early in the journey as a primary caregiver how caregivers lack support and guidance through this process, especially after the journey is over for them - no matter how short or long it may be. It was because of this experience with Larry, that I had a brilliant vision of changing the course of dementia care by initiating and supporting change in all regions of the world through training and education. That is how the International Caregivers Association (ICA) was created and strives today.
