George's Story
"You'll never be bored" - Father-in-law, Bob Weston
That pretty much sums up my life, it's been anything but boring! I'd have to say it's been a blast. The best part has to be meeting all of the interesting people that I have met throughout the years. This probably includes you!
After graduating high school, I went on my second tour with the Concord Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps. Aftwards, I joined the US Air Force. I went to tech school for 27 weeks to learn electronics and how to fly using a flight simulator. The best part was being able to "fly" a jet, crash it into the ground, then climb out of the cockpit and go to lunch. Cool stuff, I highly recommend it.
After the first year or so, I auditioned for the Music Director position for the Air Force Golden Eagles Drum & Bugle Corps. I got the position and was fortunate enough to truly enjoy performing again. Patti (my wife of 30 years) and I met at a music rehearsal. I knew she was the right one for me the first time I saw her. She's still fun to be with and has the same sparkle in her eye that I saw that day. We now have three children and one grandson.
After leaving the Air force and moving back to Concord, I went to work for Pacific Telephone and attended college at night. We lived there for the next four years then moved to Southern Indiana. I worked as a telephone systems engineer for a total of 17 years and managed a branch office in Louisville, KY. A customer hired me as a technical consultant and branch manager for his start-up consulting company for the next 7 years. I left that company and started my own consulting company with two friends for the next three years.
After selling my interest in the consulting company, we opened our current business called Golf Shores Fun Center in Corydon, Indiana. Pa...Expand for more
tti and I work it everyday and have fun doing it. It's a mini-golf complex designed to let families spend time together and just have fun. Check it out, do a search for the company name in Corydon, IN if you get the chance. We plan to work this until Patti retires from the USPS in a little more than 10 years.
Our oldest son is a veteran and is now an instructor pilot currently seeking additional students. Our daughter lives nearby and works with us at the mini-golf course while taking college courses. She has our only grandson. Our youngest son is currently serving in the US Army, working on unmanned aerial vehicles in a far away dessert, but I can't say much about that. All three visit us on a regular basis, it's always great to spend time together. I'm proud of them all.
When I'm not working, I'm usually hunting, golfing or out on a tractor at the farm. Music is still fun, I'm learning how to play the bass guitar. It's tougher than I thought it would be. I still keep in touch with Ivan Menchaca and Janice Smith, two great friends that continue to add so much to my life. Ivan is such a character, I love him like a brother. His wife and three daughters are precious to me and are considered part of my family. Janice and her husband Jim are good friends, we usually get together when Patti and I visit California. Janice is also a grandmother and hopes to retire to Alaska someday. If you've never been to Alaska, get off your butt and go! It is beautiful beyond description!
Who would have thought life could be so full of good times and great friends? I certainly don't deserve to have had such a great life. I thank God everyday for allowing me to experience all that I have. Never boring, there's always something going on. Send an email and I'll get in touch with you.
