Etienne's Story
Life
I have lived on five continents except Antarctica and South America. It has been a lot of fun and I have many tales to tell.
I attended OSU after GPHS and then moved to New Zealand for a year. I came back to GP for a year, and moved to Colorado - working in the construction field as a Fire Protection, Boiler, and Plumbing specialist. I found a job with an international maintenance firm, and relocated to the US Embassy in Moscow in 1987 (during the Gorbachev Glasnost years) until the storming of their White House (Yeltsin). I worked with the Dept of State since '90, and have remained with them ever since - managing operations at our US facilities/properties in the regions I am assigned.
I met my wife, Kelly, in Colorado prior to heading overseas. She is a Human Resource specialist, and has worked for the State Dept through our entire careers. We have two children, our oldest living in...Expand for more
Arizona, and the other is homesteading in Oregon - Sprague River area.
In Dec-2010, we returned to the US from our Afghanistan assignment, and are currently working in the US for the first time since 1987.
It was Dec 15th, 2010, that my wife, Kelly, was diagnosed with grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme - a quick growing terminal brain tumor and she had a "baker's dozen" of them. To say the least, our life changed by 180 degrees. During her four years of treatment, we lived in Washington DC. Kelly is considered a 'miracle' by the brain tumor division as one of the longest living patients in their program. She continued to s-l-o-w-l-y progress. She passed on September 2014 in my arms.
I remarried about a year later, returned to my job overseas, and retired in 2017. My wife's name is Andrea, and I am still working for the Dept of State when/where needed. I am currently living in Sedona, AZ.
