Life My goal after graduating BTHS was to attend the US Naval Academy in Annapolis Md (you know, the one in the Army-Navy game every year). But, my average grades kept me from getting a Nomination from our Congressman/Senator and Appointment. After several discussions with the Academy staff and staff at our congressman's office, I discovered I had just missed the cut. I rolled the dice a bit and paid to go to a military prep school in southern Texas. The Marine Military Academy. It is a mix of high school and one "post graduate" year to help with acceptance to any of the country’s military academies. It paid off and in 1982 I entered the Naval Academy has a "plebe". I graduated in 1986 with a BS in Oceanography. I volunteered for specialized training in Nuclear Power and Submarine warfare. After graduation I spent about 18 months between Orlando Florida, Balston Spa New York, and Groton Connecticut receiving the necessary training to operate nuclear reactors and drive nuclear submarines. Between 1989 and 1994 I served on various submarines and submarine staffs in the Seattle and San Diego areas (not as fun as the Hunt for Red October, but exciting none the less).
