Eugene's Story
Life
Spent from 55til 66 in Memphis,attended Messick 59-66 we
left Memphis and moved to Uniontown
ky. My mothers family was there. I attened Union County HS and graduated in 71. Attended ITT Tech
for electronics. Went to work in the coal mines in72, married in Dec 73 have 3 daughters(6gkids) worked in the mines til injuries forced me to retire in 94. Before retiring I attended Barber college and am a Master Barber. Now I'm retired and am Financal Secretary for our local UMWA 1740, and District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus. nstructors, they were very supportive of me and worked with my disablities, I'm one of very few that finished the full course in less than one year!! I started Jan. 13/93 and graduated Dec. 23/93. After I returned home, and before going to test for the apprentice barbers license, I
met with SS rehab and was informed that I should retire. I
did and also went and took apprentice test. Passed , later took masters test and passed.
Workplace
After High School and ITT, I worked for 20+ yrs in the Coal
mines. Did all jobs, was injured seriously enough that I
was finally retired in 1994. During 1993 I attended Barbers
college at West Kentucky Vocational Technical Institute in
Paducah Ky., Was able to become licensed barber, but was not
able to put in the hours needed to work full time.
Been retired since March of 94.
