Eugene's Story
Life
After High School I entered the US Army I served a tour in Vietnam and met my wife, Sue, on a TDY to Camp McCoy Wisconsin. Got out of the service and went to work at Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut until I got layed off. Both children, Ted and Mary, were born in Connecticut. I entered the US Air Force in 1971 and retired in 1988. I did manage to travel a bit but only had permanent duty in the USA while in the Air Force. After retiring I went to work at Boeing in Wichita and was there until they sold out to Spirit AeroSystems so I retired from Boeing and became an employee of Spirt and didn't even change desks. I did manage to finish some college in my spare time obtaining 2 associates and a bachelors with some graduate work. I have also obtained 4 national certifications, CET, CIT, CHMM and PHR. Sue and I have four grand children. Sue is a homemaker and I am retired but working part time in golfing operations at Auburn Hills golf course as well as part time as a training consultant for a company called Intrepid Learning Solutions Now live in Arizona and enjoying retired life. In 2014 moved back to Kansas to be close to family. A scare with cancer and having no help in caring for me at home made the decision pretty easy but we did love AZ.
School
Started school in Houlton ME but moved to Bridgewater after harvest and attended Sub-Primary. Moved to CT and went to school at Duggan in Waterbury for first and second grades. Moved back to Bridgewater and attended school there through the 8th grade. Again started a year in Bridgewater and moved after harvest to Mars Hill were I graduated. While in the service I attended several colleges and obtained 2 associates ( Aircraft Maintenance Technology and General Studies)and finished a bachelors (Industrial Management)after retiring. Also started a masters (Human Resources) and Adult Education but lacked the ambition to finish them. Have also attended several service schools (various areas related to Aircraft Systems and Leadership) and a trade school in Automotive Mechanics.
College
Started my college career as a visitor to Kansas State (studied Dorm Rooms and Anatomy but never enrolled in a class) while in the Army, but started school work while in the Air Force at KI Sawyer attending Northern Michigan University and enrolled in the Community College of The Air Force which netted me a degree in Aircraft Maintenance Technology. After transferring to McConnell AFB I entered Butler County Community College and Kansas Newman College (now known as Newman University) BCCC netted me an associates in General Studies and Kansas Newman a Bachelors in Industrial Management. Also started a masters degree with Webster University completing 9 hours toward a degree in Human Resources and took one class at Kansas Newman toward a Masters degree in Education. courses, a Certificate in Automotive Mechanics from Technical Trades Institute, attended Oklahoma State University for a certificate in Hazardous Materials Management which resulted in becoming a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), attended the NETA certification course and became a Certified Environmental Trainer (CET), & Certified Instructional Technologist (CIT) and completed a course of study with Webster University that prepared me for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification. Taught classes with Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia Ks and taught classes in the CHMM area for Kansas University at Wichita State University in Wichita KS.
Workplace
Been doing some form of work since I was 6 years old mostly in the Potato farming area until I entered the US Army where I held too many job areas to mention. Went to work as an inspector in department 3978/3734 at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington Ct after the Army (with 2 months at Hershal Smith Packing in between). Got layed off in 1971 and joined the US Air Force (got tired of unemployment) where I was trained as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician (a crew chief) on Jets with Over two engines. I held several postions over the next 17 years retiring in 1988 when I started to work as an Instructor with Defense Technologies Inc and hired in at Boeing in Wichita KS as an instructor in 1990 where I have been every since. In 2005, Boeing Wichita was sold and I retired and went to work for Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. (And didn't even leave my desk). I retired again in May 2008. I did seasonal work on the golf course I lived on and did some contract training for Boeing Wichita with a company called Intrepid Learning Solutions. Totally retired in 2011 and moved to Arizona.
Military
Entered the US Army in 1965 and exited in 1968. After 3 years of civilian life joined US Air Force in 1971 and served until retirement in 1988. Have wild and fond memories of both services. Met my spouse while on TDY to Wisconsin in 1968 which was a good reason to get out the first time. After working in Connecticut for 2 years and drawing unemployment for 6 months attempted to reenter the Army but the Air Force was more cooperative so entered and served at three stateside locations with several TDY assignments. Retired as a Master Sgt in August 1988. During the break had 2 children and the son also decided to enter the military but chose the Marines. I guess I must have dropped him on his head at birth or something. Was stationed at Loring AFB, ME; K I Sawyer AFB MI and McConnell AFB KS in Air Force and Ft. Dix, FT. Benning, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Long Binh RVN (Tay Ninh, Xuan Loc, Bear Cat, Tri Bay, Sui Dou, Cu Chi),Ft. Hamilton, Ft. Riley and Camp McCoy in Army (Not to mention several TDY to places in Asia, Europe, UK, Africa, and throuhout the States)
