Everett's Story

I tried to register Susan on the Provine site, but It did not work. Her profile and story is hers and mine. I worked a year after graduating from CHS 62 for the Clarion Ledger/Jackson Daily News which was ironic because I had a Clarion Ledger paper route in south Jackson from 7th grade through high school. After one year, I worked there part time for the newspaper while attending Hinds Jr. I finished the Electronic Technology program in 1966 after twice changing my major. In June 1966, I married Susan Beck (Provine 64). In August 1966, I went on active duty for the Air Guards returning home in December. I was hired in 1/67 as an Electronic Technician by the Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg. After several months of commuting to Vicksburg, Susan and I moved there in May 67. Our daughter was born in Vicksburg in August 70. Our next move was to Ruiston, LA in August 71. I was hired as a Engineering Technician for the College of Engineering at LA Tech. This move was made to continue my education on a part time basis while working full time. Our 2nd child (a boy) was born in 1973. I received my BS degree in Business Managementin in August 1978 . On the same night Bobbie Jean Kitchens (now deceased), a high school classmate received her PhD. I was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad for 4-5 months and unemployed the rest. In April 1979, I was hired by Commercial Union Insurance in Ruston as a Risk Control Re...Expand for more
p (Safety Engineer). In December 1979, they transferred me to Jackson, MS, and our 3rd child (a boy) was born in August 1980 (a moving surprise). Then in 1985, Commercial Union transferred me back to Ruston. My work had me travelling mostly in eastern LA and later MS when the guy in Jackson retired. In 1986, Susan received her BA degree from LA Tech then in 1989, she survived a bout with breast cancer. In 1993, we were transferred to the Little Rock, AR office. They had me working AR, Western TN and MS (from I-20 north), until 1998 when it shrank to just AR. In Feb. 2001, Commercial Union had become CGU Insurance and they downsized me. I received a full retirement as part of my severance package.Susan had a 2nd round with breast cancer in 2003, and she survived with scars from this fight which was 2 years after she had both knees replaced. We live in the town of Bryant which is outside Little Rock on the way to Hot Springs. I remained in the MS Air National Guards with a couple of breaks before retiring in 1998 with 27 years service. Susan retired in in 2008 from the Salem Methodist Church in Benton, AR. We have not gotten to travel like we would like. Our daughter has two beautiful girls and we are enjoying them. We stay in touch with friends on email, facebook & classmates. We only return to Jackson for reunions, funnerals, and weddings. We still have friends there that we stay in touch with but no relatives.
