Etrina's Story
Life
My Life
I was recently married to my first love and high school sweetheart, Michael. It was a long time coming, but well worth all we went through over the years to be together. We are happy, in love, and still euphoric about the new stage in our relationship. We have no children together (yet), but I am "step-mother" to my husband's 15 year-old son Alex.
My Pets
I have four cats: Blackie, Tiger, Jasper and Miss Vanka. I had no intention of getting two more cats, but I did. I call them my "cat kids" because they are very much like the chidren I do not have... I love them very much. I just wish they had jobs so they could help out with the rent and the their food bill...
My Job
I am the Coordinator of Communications at a large Chicago-area hospital. It can be very hectic but it can be quite exciting, and a learning experience. I have gained extensive knowledge to the inside workings of a hospital, the various policies and procedures, doctors, and the Health Care industry in general. Earning my Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems helped to put me on the road to where I want to be. I am curently planning on going back to school to obtain a Master's Degree (MBA). I want to continue working in the Health Care industry, however I am keeping my options open and will move into other industries as my career goals dictate.
School
I always enjoyed school as a child...Expand for more
. I liked to read, and was a pretty good at writing. While grade school was enjoyable and productive for me, I felt like I blossomed in high school. I met friends that I still have today, and had many experiencesand was active in many groups that helped me grow into the woman that I am today.
College
I actually had two attempts at college... my first attempt was immediately after high school when I attended Western Illinois University for about a year. I enjoyed college (i.e,: did a lot of partying, drinking, and other stuff) but had financial difficulties that sent me back home. If I had it to do over again, I would have worked harder to go back to WIU and face my fears and finish college while I was still very young.
My second attempt at college was much more successful. I decided to finish school and get my degree in 1997 at age 27. I started out at Olive-Harvey College, and after receiving an Associate's Degree there, I transferred to Chicago State University where I received a Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems in August 2004. I felt more in control of my learning experience since I had long outgrew my young adult insecurities. I learned so much about myself, the people I surround myself with, and the world in general. I am glad that I did finally finish college. It means so much more to me now that I understand the value of education for a person and society.
