Faith's Story
College
I attended Grove City College and graduated in 1983. Grover life back then was great. I enjoyed the small college atmosphere and really got to know my professors. A charter member of Delta Chi Omega, I became the sorority historian, (the first sightings of me behind a camera). Dr. Hilda Kring, English Ed. supervisor, made sure all her teachers were well-prepared for the classroom. Student teaching at Grove City High School in the tenth grade set the stage for my career at Clear Spring Maryland.
In 1990, I left Maryland and finished my Masters in Library Science at Clarion University. My first library position was as a children's librarian at Peoples Library in New Kensington/Lower Burrell.
After four years in the public library, I returned to public schools when I was hired as one of two school librarians at Shaler Area High School. That fall (1996) I also became one of three yearbook advisers. Although yea...Expand for more
rbook is a great deal of work, and I complain about it periodically, it has given me many opportunities: travel (Kansas City every other year), Minnesota University (and the mall of America), Ball State (roadtrip with two vans of students and three advisers). I have also judged yearbooks for Pennsylvania School Press Association and, currently, Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
I now reside in Gibsonia, PA with my tuxedo cat Gibby.
My favorite entertainment, and one some people would be surprised to learn, is that of a parrothead. I attend the Jimmy Buffett concert in full regalia every year. I think my stint as a children's librarian gave me the penchant for dressing up and making a fool of myself. (Don't knock it until you've tried it.) Jimmy's music, especially "Changes in Latitudes, Changes is Attitudes" got me through a tough time, and I pay homage to that each year. Check out my photos for last year's show.
