Frank's Story
Hi, to whoever you are that wanted to read about what I've done in my life since High School! Not many of you knew me in high school because I was always doing something outside of the school for fun and activities. I was surfing, camping, hiking in the mountains, fishing, and learning to fly fixed wing single engine aircraft. I got my Student Pilot's license at fifteen 1/2, and was flying solo out of Compton Airport before I could drive a car without a licensed driver with me! I was taking flying lessons or bumming flights with pilots from age 14 on, until I soled at age fifteen 1/2. I had only a few close friends in high school, (you know who you are) but many friends all over So.Cal. because I was either gone surfing or participating in the United States Air Force-CAP activities. I guess that's where I got hooked on wearing a uniform, taking and giving orders, respect for serving our country, people, and working my way up through the ranks. I was a Squadron Commander, Wing Inspector and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. (I don't know how much space I have for my story so I'll summarize the rest of my life!)
I got married to a Dental Surgical Nurse, had a son and daughter, lived in Inglewood,Ca., Huntington Beach, Ca., Oklaho...Expand for more
ma City, Ok, and then back to Huntington Beach, Ca. Spent from 1971 to 2001, 30 years on the City of Costa Mesa Fire Dept. as a FireFighter, Paramedic, Captain, Training Officer, Admin. Capt., Supression Battlion Chief, Operations Division Chief, and then the last 10 years of my career as Fire Chief. Got college degrees along the way and Calif. Community College teaching credentials and taught college classes at 4 colleges on my days off.
I'm now retired, living in my multi-million dollar home on my 120 acre pine forested ranch, watching the bears, elk, moose, deer, coyotes, mountain lion, owls, ducks, turkeys and you name it wander past my porch. I enjoy sharing time with my family, 4 granddaugthers, and Fire Service friends that visit me here, between my travels as a retired person that had a rewarding career(s) serving others and is now kicking back and enjoying retirement!
Well, that's my story, (no bull), and who would ever thought this Dominguez High School surfer kid would have ever stayed out of trouble and done good? Live Long and Prosper! Drop me a line and say hi if you want, as I check this website a few times a month when I think to do so. Respectfully, Frank J. Fantino - Graduate of Class of 1962
