Farid's Story
In 1960, At age 14, I came to North High School, on an F-1 Student Visa & registered in 10th grade. I was one of two who came on an F-1 Visa to the U.S.A.; the other one was the Prince of Thailand & He also attended North High. My trip from Jerusalem, Jordan to Columbus, Ohio took three days. I flew from Jerusalem Airport to Beirut, Lebanon. I slept one night, then I flew to Amsterdam, Holland, & I slept for i night, then I flew to JFK, N.Y. then flew by helicopter to La Guardia Airport & then boarded TWA to Columbus.
I attended North High for three years & graduated in 1963. Even though I did not make too many close friends, but I loved every day that I spent there & I loved all of my classmates & my Teachers that were very kind & nice to me. My homeroom was 129 & my homeroom teacher was Mrs. Adams. I remember dearly Mr. Horn, Mr. Wolf, Mr. Dupre, Mr. House, Mr. Decatur, Mrs. Poling, Mrs. Conrad, & Miss Bontempo. I also remember dearly my classmates Mike Marshall, Mike Leyshon, Jim Alley, Pamela Stewart, Karen Calhoun, James Clark, Sylvia Cox, Kim Crawford, Joyce Cotrtrill, Nancy Cory, Ken Cramer, Jim Davis, Janice Courtright, Kathy Dalmy, Sandy Dunleavy, William Graham, John Greene, Maribeth Kunze, Anne Mercer, Phyllis Secaris, Cynthia Stark, Jeene Greenlee, Barbra Nice, & judy Wilson.
During those three years I lived with an uncle of mine for 6 months, then for another six months with an 83-yr old lady named Henrietta, who lived in White Hall, Bexly. Then I lived with Mr. Wolf & Mrs Wolf, my chemistry Teacher for 10 months, then they move to San Jose Ca, & the last I lived with Pater & Susan Eikenberry (He was studying Law & she was studying Social Work at Ohio State University.
My uncle had moved to Puerto Rico, so when I graduated He sent me, as a graduation present $200.00 & an Airplane ticket to PR to spend the summer there with him before I go to San Jose, CA where I had a scholarship at San Jose State.
I registered in The Inter American University of Puerto Rico to learn Spanish, I liked it & I continued to finish my BA in English Literature with a Minor in Science & a Minor in Mathematics. I finished my BA in yrs. & a half at age 19
After I graduated I was offered a job as a 5th Grade Teacher by Mrs Laura Rapp, the Director of an Elite Private School known as Consuelo Escalona Private School which was owned by the Number one Educator in PR, Mrs. Ana G. Mendez, who owned several Schools & Universitie...Expand for more

Mrs Rapp liked me & She told me that She was retiring & wanted me to take over the School Administration; but She told me that I need to get my MA in Educational Administration & I did that in a year & a half, at age 21. I was appointed Assistant Principal in the Elementary School & I taught Math & Sciences in the High School. Then I was appointed Assistant Principal for the whole School, the 3rd year I was the General School Administrator, replacing Mrs. Mendez' son Pepito Mendez.
I got married with a a very nice lady who went to College with me & later was working for me as a 4,5,6th grade English Teacher. named Heriberta Asmar. we had four children & 16 grandchildren, four of them who finished their College Ed.
I started my PhD with Nova University, while I am working, but it did not work, b/c it was expensive & my pay was not so great. So in 1974 I resined & opened a Met Food Supermarket with the brother of Ghazi Saleh, a friend of mine who was a medical Doctor specializing in Neurology.
So from 1974 to 1980 I was owner operator of a Supermarket in New York City, & We did very good; but We sold it b/c we were being arm-robbed about 10 times every year.
We moved to California hoping to buy a good Supermarket there in a very safe area. Instead We went into the Valet Dry Cleaning Business. So for six years We were doing Dry Cleaning in Anaheim , California for 22 Hotels (including Disneyland, Hilton, Sheraton, & New Port Beach & 6 Fire Departments & 6 Agencies. we did good, but It was very tiresome. We were opened from 6 AM to 2AM & We had over 40 Employees working for us. So We sold the business to a couple of Koreans who lasted about 6 months & ended up in a very small over the counter dry cleaning Agency. Then We opened a Deli & Produce Business in Cerritos, CA which was very very hard, b/c We had to go every night at 2AM to get the fresh produce from the Market. This business venture did not go well, so We sold it at a $117,000. loss.
So we went back to New Jersey, & we opened an Income Tax & Bookkeeping Office in 1985. So I got my credentials as a Public Accountant, & We added Accounting & Translations to our services & we did great. We remained in this type of business until 2013.
In 2006 I went back to Amman, Jordan & i got married again to another wonderful woman named Wroud & God blessed with two beautiful girls, Lamar 7, & Julinar 4. I retired at age 62. We travel a lot & we are very Happy.
