Felix's Story

It's been a long time since school days.Who would have thought that at this age I would reflect on those times. I wish that I could have been more mature . and looked at things like I do now, But I suppose thats part of growing up. ( Or Older ) I was not a very good student and plainly lost interest in school..You might say that if I had to do it over again , I would change some things , espcially showing more interest in school. I had some good teachers along the way that helped keep me in school for the short period of time that I was there. I cut a lot of classes and would get in minor trouble. At the time it seemed more serious , but I was on the verge of getting in serious trouble. Mr Macaffrey was always good to me. He would always lecture me about school and how I could be anything I wanted to be if I tried hard enough. He had a lot of patience with me . I used to play the part of tough guy in school along with some of my friends. We were not , it was more like trying to fit in some where and be a part of some thing. I had good friends that really stuck together. Some of us played music and would compete with other Bands. Our group consisted of Henry Garcia Jr on the drums, John Ortiz vocalist and guitar,, Louie Sedeno as the lead guitar and vocalist , me as bass & rythem guitar player. The name of the band was The Innocents . We played here and there and played for the Geyserville High school graduation class of 1967. Louie and John gave military service for their country. They passed away a few years ago. They died so young. Another good friend Jesse Chamberlain passed away,I miss them . There's many others that I remember but never took the time to get to know, I wish that I could have. I also remember how exciting it was to go to the dances and check out the girls. Believe it or not , I was some what bashful and shy. Some people took it as being conceited. There was one girl that I had a real bad crush on , I never got to know her name. She rode the same school bus and lived on the East side of los amigos Rd North from Redwood Rd, ln Windsor. She lived in a big spanish style house on the east side of the road with a long road to her house with palm treeson each side of the Rd..You might say that to me she was the pretty woman that Roy Orbison sang about but she never came walking back to me. I don't think that she knew what a crush I had on her. She probably didn't even know i existed. She lived in what i would say upper crust life , even though it appeared that she didn't act like it. You might say I was from the other side of the tracks Then there was the other one that I did get to know in High School, She was my first love. It got to where she was all I thought about and dreamed of Some how things never worked out between us .She went on in life and married some one else and I went my way, It took me a long time to get over her. Time changes things. I read a little Bio on Ron Maginnis here at Class- Mates. At one time he was my neighbor and I never took the time to rea...Expand for more
lly get to know him. Thats sad . If I could change things. I went into the Army in the fall 1966, dropping out of school in my junior year. I was seventeen years old , just a kid but a soldier in a war. Stayed in for five years, came out married with two kids and no job. I'll admit ,I went on the welfare for about 3 months , got a job working nights and attended Santa Rosa Jr College during the day. There I majored in Administration of Justice. After about 3 years I got 60 credits and got hired by the Santa Rosa Police Dept as a police officer. The Kid that hung out with a rough crowd had mellowed out , Time and life experiences change things. I went through some rough times here and there but never let circumstances keep me down. You can't stay down , you have to go forward and not give up. This is a little long and I'll fast forward. Yes , I went through a rough period of time in my 40's where I lost material things, a divorce, all I had left was the clothes on my back. I had to put my trust in God and he carried me through . I remarried to a wonderful lady. I moved to The state of Oklahoma in 1997 and started over again at the age of 47 . I had been out of law enforcement for 17 years since 1980.. A month after arriving in Oklahoma, God opened a door for me, a sheriff hired me to work as a detention deputy. I didn't know that he was a Christian until after I went to work for him. At 47 years old I resumed my law enforcement carreer. I went through a police academy at 49 years old. In the last 11 years I went from from detention deputy to presently being chief of police of a small city. I'm 59 years old. I thank God for all his blessings, I hope that if some one reads this it can be an inspiration to them. Here it is 2016 and I'm 66 years old now and guess what?, I'm still working in law enforcement as a chief of police .I don't know if I will retire soon. I hope that I can work for about 3 more years and then travel some and visit friends and family. My sister Julia Hernandez Anderson passed away this year at 62 years of age,. It makes you think a little more about some of the things that you would want to accomplish in your life time.. Who would have thought when we were so young in high school that the day would come that we are not so young anymore. Hopefully I can attend one of the reunions with my classmates at Healdsburg high . Some day. Here it's 2017 , I'm 67 years old and still working as chief of police. Two more years, God willing and I'll call it good . I have days where I reflect back on the past years and friends long departed . I finally became a paid member and hope that some of my profile visitors will get in touch with me. Well, I finally retired in July 2017 at 68 years old. Its been a roller coaster ride for sure but finally I'll get to travel some and not worry about having to go to the office every day. I'm contemplating going to the class of 68 Healdsburg High class reunion , its been a long time since I've seen some of my classmates.
