Felix's Story
After being discharged from the Navy, we moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
The reason for this move was money. I had a job in Van Nuys for $80 a week. Glenn Pray, President of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Company said if I'd move to Oklahoma, he would pay me $82.50 a week. So for $2.50 we moved to Oklahoma to build Auburn and Cord Automobiles. Soon after being here I was the General Manager of the restoration company and helped on the Sales of the Cords that we were manufacturing. We manufactured 97 Cords. Then went on the manufacture 113 Auburn Speedsters. We also designed and built 16 Dual Cowl Auburn Phaetons.
I also worked for the Prudential as the
local Agent for 32 years. After retiring, I went back into the car business again. We buy and sell cars and parts for the Auburns and Cords.
We send parts all over the world. In the past few years, we help write ...Expand for more
a book on Glenn Pray and made a DVD.
Currently we have 7 of the Auburns and Cords, one 55 T-bird (of course from California), 34 Mercedes Benz, 62 Healy, and the old 49 Willys Jeepster that we drove to Birmingham. If you ever saw the Yellow Jeepster, that was mine. She now sleeps at the Grand Lake of the Cherokee's.
At times I wish we were back in Van Nuys, but Dad died in Nov 2005, so we had to sell the farm. We moved Mom here to Broken Arrow. We built her a new home behind our house. A lot nicer than the old Farm house that was built in 1932, at least the roof doesn't leak.
We have 5 Kids between us and 9 Grand-children. Two of the grandchildren are married, and their youngest is 2 months.
We are having fun and enjoying life. Just need more time to play with the Cars. Hope to talk to some of you down the dusty road.
