George's Story

Life We live in the greatest country in the world, it was made that way by the blood of those who fought and died to give us the liberties we enjoy. Too many of us are giving those freedoms away by letting the government and others to take charge of our lives by offering security for everything. We give over to those systems our rights to chose. We want safe secure lives but are unwilling to fight for them we would rather others just provide. Millions have landed on our shores seeking what we take for granted, the freedom to become all that we can be. Why is it that immigrants to this country are 5 times more likely to become wealthy and successful than those of us who were born here? Is it because we just settle for the first thing that comes along and then we live start living quiet lives of desparation? Thomas Jefferson said for the most people die at age 21 and we bury them at age 65. Kiyoko and I have found a way to go for our dreams and we are going to spend the rest of our lives doing just that. We hope that you will also. School I joined the Navy right out of school. Was very lucky to travel extensively through out the Pacific and Far East where I met the love of my life in Japan. Kiyoko and I have been married for 40 years now. After 9+ years in the Navy we were on our way back to Hawaii when we allowed dream stealers to take that away from us. We both have businesses of our own and are currently reaching towards our dreams. One of which is to settle in Hawaii on the island of Kauai. Our goals include helping as many others as possible to reach their dreams. College What can I say here, I went to Ventura and majored in business, then I transferred to Cal State Northridge to finish up with a degree in business admin specializing in accounting. What I have been able to realize now is that the schools from start to finish are preparing one to be a slave, trading time for money working for ...Expand for more
somebody else's dreams. The best thing one can do in school is learn to develope skills in bettering ones self and personal relationships, that will take you farther than any job ever could. A person should go for their dreams and not be so concerned about what others think. Einstein said it best: "Imagination is worth more than knowledge." Workplace I have worked for many different companies in all sorts of positions. I am not a good employee since I want some degree of control in my life. Therefore for the past 25 years or so I have been self employed in one business or another. There is a great book out there called "The Rope", which describes the differences in people. It asks the question of whether you are a slave or a prisoner. Are you looking for the man/boss/gov't to take care of you or do you want to be free to make your own choices? Read the book it will change your life (maybe). Military I tried to make each and every place I was stationed at to be the best. I was willing to learn from anyone who had the knowledge of the project. Many I saw were so wrapped up in their position that they were never able to lead. I might not have been the best sailor because I like to challenge authority and incompentant systems. I was a team player. RM8 chiefs and I usually did not get along too well, until I met one who changed my life. This chief had just been transferred to Navcomsta, Wash D.C. A couple of us both RM1's and one RM2 were working on something or another when this chief comes up and asks us what we are doing. We tell him and he asks this question "Is there another or easier way to do what you are doing? We all answer positively. He then says well why aren't you doing it then? We said the book says to do it this way. His answer to this changed my life. "Well somebody had to write the book didn't they? Why not rewrite the book?" Go for your dreams. Don't let anybody steal your dream!
