Florian's Story
Life
Attended St. Matthias grade school from 1941 through June of 1945. Attended Most Holy Trinity HS from 1945 through June 1949. After graduation, worked for Addressograph-Multigraph as an Apprentice rebuilding "Multilith" offset presses until October 1950. Then was employed at A.M. Best Company, as an Ad Production Manager for their monthly insurance publications, in their Fulton and Gold Street location, downtown NYC, until September 1951, when I enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Blue-water sailor for 4 years, serving in the Amphibious Forces, Atlantic Fleet, on two ships (Attack Transports) : the USS Chilton (APA38), and the USS Botetourt (APA136), and attained the rank of Signalman Petty Officer First Class. e). Lived in Ridgewood, Queens, NY until 1959, when we bought a home in Commack, Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. Left A.M. Best Co. in 1965, to join McGraw-Hill as an Advertising Production Manager, for their Classified Ad Department, and ultimately as a Network Administrator, and retired in January 1991. Attended NYIT for BS in Behavioral Science 1975-1980. Have three daughters, all married (one a physician), and 6 grandchildren. Dolores, who was Managing Editor of Bae's (formerly Hazeltine Corporation) company newspaper, InPhaze, for 20 years, joined me in retirement on April 1999. Would very much like to hear or "read" about from any of my "classmates", many of whom I have met in some past reunions (especially the one for Fr. Louis Wiesner, in 1979..still very much alive, and with whom I still communicate !). Still looking for any classmates from St. Matthias, class of June 1949 ! !
