David's Story
In 2005 I was diagnosed with adult version of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), got meds for it and started a brand new life. Never dreamed it could be so good, just wish it was 1975 instead of 2005, but I'll take this any time, any way. Till then life was mostly a combo of confusion, bad decisions, broken relationships--in short, I was usually lost and never knew why nothing ever worked out. Even my rare successes were, Is that all there is? In 1997 I was diagnosed with esophogeal cancer, usually about 85-90 percent fatal. But I had surgery and beat it. No sign of cancer since, plus no long term side effects from surgery. My doc says I'm 1 in 1000. It's actually quite a story, might write about it someday. And for anybody who doesn't already know, "ADD" IS NO JOKE. For those who know or have known you, but don't see you regularly, it looks like you are just lazy and self-centered among other things and though you have all the tools you're just throwing your life away on purpose. symptoms, can see the problem. I myself never knew what was going on, so the tendency is to agree that you are just a loser, even though you know it's not true and you know something is not quite right. Big mistake! because most people, like me, try very hard to hide this. It is a terrible catch-22 situation leading to frustration, embarrassment, and much confusion. When I put my website back online, one of the things I'm going to do is advise people who think they have the symptoms to get it checked out. Otherwise you may be looking at literally years of depression and, really, a total inability to be really happy. Other than that life has been great. Just kidding, except for the last 4 years. I have 5 daughters, including 24 year old twins, a 34 year old step-daughter( the only one currently speaking to me), and two older ones ages 35 and almost 38 who live in Florida. The others all live here. I'm 59 (it can't really be true, can it?), and have lots of life to fit into what I have left, hopefully at least another 25 years. More later--maybe.
