Frances's Story
When I was in school I always felt I was the one no one noticed. So, I'm not sure how many of you will remember me, especially in high school. I'd like to think someone that sees me here will remember me and get in touch. I wasn't there for very long. Only a semester of my sophomore yr. Some of you from Palms may remember me better. I was at Palms for 7th and 9th. Went back to Boston for the 8th grade. After a semester at Hami(I dropped out) I went back to Boston, again. I didn't go back to school, I went to work for a local (now defunct, what a surprise!) department store chain where I met my first husband. Yup, I said first! I got married a year later and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl 9 months and 3 days later. Three months after that, we were heading for the big "D". But that was ok. It just wasn't meant to be. Six years later I was a mother again. Another girl. Didn't want to get marry again. I was enjoying life too much. What can I say? It was the 80's!!!! Another 6 yrs would pass before I would settle down. Or so I thought. I had to be nuts!!!
I helped raise 6 step children. Never a dull moment, that's for sure. He was a long distance truck driver. He decided to take a local job and it wasn't long after that that I "hit the road" outa there. Jealousy and control had no place in my life. So, I raised my 2 girls by myself until they graduated, and went out on their own. Now, I'm now a proud grandmother of 4 beautiful grandkids. 2 boys 2 girls, ages 26 to 16. I'd been single (more or less) all that time and got to be very independent. Sometimes I think a little toooo ind...Expand for more
ependent. Eventually, I got my GED and went on to business school. Got certified as a Travel Agent but, the timing was bad. The industry starting to go through a decline. Bankruptcies, mergers, etc., so jobs weren't that available. Went back to retail, muddled through some jobs. Then 10 yrs ago I met a manager that saw potential and he helped me get into management. Within 2 yrs. I was a store manager. I've been doing it ever since and I love it! I now live and work in "America's Home Town" Plymouth, MA. I managed a small gift shop for 3 yrs. until the company closed it in 2009. That summer I met a wonderful guy. We grew up in the same neighborhood in Boston and didn't know each other. I couldn't be happier. Just wish it hadn't taken so long!
I hope to hear back from some of you.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Donna Wilson, because we were inseparable in jr. high.
If I won $1 million, I'd give part of it to my daughters, set up trust funds for college for my 4 grandkids, then spend the rest on remodeling my kitchen*, a new car (probably a Mustang convertible right now I have a 15 yr. old Camaro convertible) and who knows what.
My current age is 66. When I was 12, I thought people my current age now, were old. I was so completely wrong.
My best friend would tell you I'm outgoing, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as nutz.
In a year and a half, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by getting older.
* Update: Didn't win a million dollars but, I bought a new truck, we remodeled the kitchen! And back yard!!!
