Frances's Story
Frances is from Pasadena, California. Graduate of John Muir High School, Pasadena City College (AA - humanities), University of the Pacific (BA - history/theater double major) and Spalding University (MFA in Writing - poetry).
Frances retired in June of 2019 from PUSD, after 39 years of teaching, most of it at Blair Middle And High School - An International Baccalaureate World School, where she was the former chair of the social science department, and taught AP and regular US Government, economics, world history and the IB Theory of Knowledge course. She was also the advisor to the Blair ASB, and to the Blair Gay Straight Alliance which she helped to found, as well as coaching 3 different forms of competitive academic teams. Under the name F.M. Nicholson, Frances had two published volumes of poetry, and has had work accepted into a number of journals, including "Margie," "Pearl" and "Evening Street Review."
Frances has two children, Bryce (JMHS class of 2005) and Mary Kate (JMHS class of 2009). Both were married in 2014, and Mary Kate is now the mother of two little girls. in 2008 Mary Kate and Cynthia, along with Frances, were featured in a public service television advertisement by Equality California regarding the fight to remove Prop .8 from the California constitution, for which cause they were also interviewed by CNN.
In retirement Frances lives with her wife and fellow poet Cynthia Rausch Allar in Louisville, KY, where they both went to graduate school.
