Frank's Story
Following graduation, I spent part of the summer of ‘67 in Haight-Ashbury. That fall went to Highline College on a track scholarship and then was recruited to California school (University of the Pacific) to run track and cross-country. Graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and then entered doctoral program at Univ of Washington. Graduated from UW in ’78 and went to University of Utah Medical Center for 3 years. In 1981 went to a large rehabilitation hospital in Southern California (Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center) to develop traumatic brain injury/stroke and assistive technology programs. Married my wife Annie who worked at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in ’86 and became the proud parents of two daughters in ’89 and ’92. ief in the Department of Surgery. Annie is and audiologist as well as Cleft and Craniofacial Coordinator in the Division of Plastic Surgery at Duke University Hospital. We live in Chapel Hill but root for Duke Basketball. Our daughters are almost “off the payroll”. The oldest went to Duke University, is recently married and currently in Physician Assistant program at Wake Forest University. Our youngest went to Boston College and a nurse in the Duke Emergency Department. I have continued running and have been fortunate to run a number of full and half marathons over the years. I ran the Boston Marathon in 2013 (year of the bombing) but had already crossed the finish line and was back in my hotel taking a shower and drinking a beer when the explosions occurred. All has been good over the years. Looking forward to seeing how old, feeble, hard of hearing and immobile we have all become…!
