Frank's Story
After graduating from Fort I attended Clark for a short time, worked full time at Alcoa, married, and joined the Navy in 1966 for a 3-year hitch. While serving in the military I divorced, re-married, had a son and was then off to Vietnam. In 1969 I returned home, went back to work at Alcoa while attending Clark College finally graduating in 1970. We then moved to Pullman where I earned a BS from WSU in 1973 before being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army at Fort Lewis. For the next 20 years I was stationed at various Army, Air Force and Navy installations throughtout the US and overseas. in Korea and then two years at the Presidio of San Francisco, I retired from the Army after 20 years with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After military service, in 1993 I moved to Hawaii where I worked for Raytheon as a defense contractor for two years before returning to Vancouver where I worked as the Procurement Manager for Halton/Caterpillar for the next seven years. In October, 2000 I re-married and then went to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs as the Chief of Contracting at the Portland VA Medical Center until my retirement from civil service in 2006. Since then, my wife and I share our time residing in Washington and Arizona, and travel each year throughout the world enjoying various cultures and lifestyles. Retirement has been great!
