Frank's Story

Born in Brampton. Hello everybody. I first began my education in the year of 1954, within the James S Bell school. My parents moved to England for awhile, and upon returning back to Canada, I continued education within the Sir Adam Beck school on Horner Avenue, Alderwood. After a few years it was back to England ( my mother being British), and as you may now be guessing, after a short stay, we returned back to Canada. This time it was back in the James S Bell . From this school I then passed into the New Toronto High School and after one solid year, it was back to good old Britain. Well that was it. I was employed here in a job. Got married and have a son and daughter (twins) from my second marriage. Yes, I have returned back to Long Branch, Alderwood and Toronto for visits. I keep up to date with news from Canada. Whether I met you or not from my era of time within these schools, in common we all shared that same time frame when we were young. I have updated some photos taken awhile back. The moon photo taken through my telescope shows a number of craters. Anybody interested in the cosmos? The other two photos shows St John the Baptist church within a town called Aberdare,,situated in S.Wales,United Kingdom. The original parish was built in 1189. Some of the original architecture is still intact. By 1853 the burial ground was full and the vicar John Griffith reported that there was so much water in the soil that the coffins floated. It is in pretty good shape today. I hope to update soon more photos. Bye for now. Three more photos. The photo of the sun was taken in a place called Miskin,S.Wales. Was snapped in the morning rising up over the hill. For the tech minded - f8, 1/500 sec, iso 100, 270mm. The sunrise taken was, in Miskin again. On a different day to the sun picture. Notice that lonely house on top. Nice view from up there. And last but not least . We have 3 cats and this close up photo shows one of them. Her name is Belle. More pics later. This photo of the moon was taken at 90x through my 6inch reflecting telescope. Through the telescope images are reversed, so south points upward and north down, As with the first picture of the moon. Well, here is Kitty. Notice the slow worm . She found this and placed it down. She was pleased with this find as you can tell. The slow worm crawled away with no harm to it. The next black and white photo has the write up with the picture. So the next photo shows our other black and white cat, three in total. She is seen flopping out enjoying the moment. Her name is Suzy. The next photo shows the full moon with write up. Well now, I reckon you all know that the highest tidal range is in the Bay of Fundy in Eastern Canada. But do you know where on Earth is the 2nd highest.? Along with a few snapshots below, the 2nd highest is along a stretch of coast on the Bristol Channel seaside resort called Barry Island, in the Vale of Glamorgan , South Wales. The tidal range is 15 meters ( 49 ft ). Barry is a nice little place and not that far from the capitol of Wales called Cardiff. Also at Barry Island feathers got a bit ruffled between 2 seagulls. Neither hurt each other, and the aggressor flew off. Pics below. Next photo. Mare Crisium ( Sea of Crisis ). As mentioned before on the full moon photo, This time a closer view of the area. Steve Strange, a welsh pop singer of Visage - best know single " Fade to Grey". On 12 February 2015 he suffered a heart attack while in Egypt. He died later that day in hospital. A high profile funeral was held at a church in Porthcawl.. Within the photo album is a picture of that church, along with 3 images of Porthcawl The next photo taken through the telescope shows a crater of interest, called Plato ( Plato is marked on the photo ) This crater has a dark floor and has a diameter of 60 miles ( 101 kilometers ) Apparently activity over the years has been observed within. What like, you eagerly ask? There are reports that the dark floor is occasionally obscured by mists and myriad points of light. The Sea of Crisis ( as pointed out in the other moon shots ) also experiences similar activity. I have to report that I have not seen this. Flashes of light have been observed and are explosions caused be meteoroids hitting the surface. A typical blast is as powerful as a few hundred pounds of tnt. This can be easily photographed through a telescope. Today , 19/04/2019, we went to a place called The Knap and the temperatures here reached around 19c. It is a nice area and about a mile from Barry. I have entered a few photos of the place, but if anyone is interested, go to u tube and type in The Knap Vale of Glamorgan. There are some good drone shots of the area to see. Enjoy. Last night I watched a 1968 tv ghost story called Whistle and I'll Come To You. About a professor who visits a seaside resort on the east coast of Britain. This is on u tube. I took a photo of the site and entered it in the photo gallery. The top one has clear viewing. So if you have a rainy day and nothing else to do, you may be entertained with this atmospheric b...Expand for more
lack and white ghost story. I know I was. Today - 27/04/2019 - we have had some rather strong gusty winds- not the sort of day to wear a wig. Was going to go to Cardiff to get update photos but decided against. Another day when more settled. Fly me to the moon, sings Frank Sinatra. Anyway, I have entered a black & white photo of the moon taken through a telephoto lens of 75mm to 300mm. This photo was taken at 280mm. You do not need a telescope to get basic moon shots like the photo below just entered. A telephoto lens and a camera with the ability to use manual settings is required. By using manual settings this photo was taken at f7.1 - 1/125 second - 100 iso - 280mm. Focusing was critical as it was on manual focus not auto.. See,,,, with a bit of practice you also can reach for the stars or on this case the moon. Went to a place in the Vale of Glamorgan called Penarth. Penarth is approx 4 miles ( 6.4 km ) southwest of Cardiff city centre , and is the wealthiest seaside resort in the Cardiff urban area. This seaside resort town is the 2nd largest in the Vale of Glamorgan next only to Barry. The number of holiday makers has dwindled and retains a substantial retired population of over 25% of residents. This place retains Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Penarth is now mostly a dormitory town for Cardiff commuters. See photos below. CARDIFF Capitol of Wales. Today 14/05/2019 was a sunny day with a nice breeze and temperature of around 17c. Took photos of some buildings. I shall enter a bit of info with the photos in the gallery. There really is a lot regarding Cardiff, like any capitol city, information wise. Cardiff is not as big as Ottawa nor Toronto but is a nice city with nice places to visit. It is a shame video cannot be loaded in the gallery, for then you could hear the surrounding sounds as well as the clocks chiming. 22/05/2019. Hazy day, warm with a gentle breeze. Took some photos inside the Cardiff national museum. This is only a very small selection I took to what was in there. 07/06/2019/ A cloudy bright day with a moderate breeze. About 16c. A few photos of Cardiff castle. I do not attempt to go into the history of this as there is a lot of it. I leave it for anyone to look it up if interested. It is very interesting nonetheless. Photos show just the outer wall of the castle. It is back to the moon. Four photos show the moon rising above the mountain top. Now the moon can be filmed on movie which would show a rather fast rise, depending on the magnification used. As filming cannot be displayed on here, I took a series of still shots and every fourth photo, I displayed in the photo gallery. That way you can see the moon rising. It gives you an idea of how it looks. Went to Aberdare awhile back. Entered a few photos. If interested type in Aberdare wiki and it tells you all about the place. Today, we zoom back to the moon. When photos are returned from probes around other planets they come as raw images. The photos need to be dealt with to bring out detail etc. When I photograph the moon same thing applies, for I take them in raw imagery. The photos in the gallery show this. Date 16/09/2019. Well, I am sure that you all have been hearing about the news on Great Britain leaving Europe. Now people who voted leave are called brexiteers. Those that voted remain are called remainers. Now named remoaners. The brexiteers won the referendum. So after 3yrs and a bit we still have not left. Why? Simple. Remoaners have been desperate to delay., by any means possible ,, us leaving. There is a lot that has happened. Very involved. I have no intention of going through it all, but we are now arriving at crunch time.. October 31st is the deadline. If you have an interest in this then there are sights to visit on you tube, one such being JEFF TAYLOR ON BREXIT. It is factual.and to the point. It's gonna be a good one. Australia follow this with great interest. 16/10/2019 Bit of a brexit update. Talks are going on earnestly and we await outcomes. Only 15 days to the deadline. On 19/10/2019 parliament vote on the prime ministers brexit deal. 27/10/2019. Well is it a no deal brexit on the 31/10/2019. Soon to find out. 30/10/209 Nope it is now an election for December 12. Anyway. my friend of 40 years paid a visit to the national museum in Cardiff. He is in an art class and the class came to the Cardiff museum to see the art section. His name is Phillip Mole. We worked together in an engineering factory in Swindon ,Wiltshire,England. He was best man at my wedding. I have entered a photo of him in the photo section. 13/12/2019 It has been a very good election result for Great Britain. We now move forward. 29/12/2019 I intend to take more photos of Porthcawl later on. If interested, you can visit you tube and type in Porthcawl live stream and have on the spot viewing. Feb 01 2020 United Kingdom has left Europe and has now entered the transition zone. Prime Minister Boris Johnston is very optimistic on the way forward for great outcomes.
