Frank's Story
Let's see...
Blizzard of '78 and our graduation was 30 years ago... where does the time go?
Maxine Parker and I got married in 1979. At the time I was going to ITT Tech and working at Essig Brother's Mitee Handy hardware in Carmel. Wasn't too long before I started working for Monroe Systems for Business in the Park 100 area of Northwest Indianapolis. The job was repairing office machines around the central Indiana area. As far South as Bloomington and North to Lafayette.
When they asked me to move to Fort Wayne in 1985. I left them and started working for Four Phase Systems repairing mini computers. About the time I joined Four Phase they were bought by Motorola. Then in 1986 they asked me to move to Fort Wayne. I'm slow sometimes but I do catch on, so we moved.
When we left Westfield we had Frankie (1980) and Adam (1982). In Fort Wayne Nick (1986), Jon (1989), and Annie (1990) were born. That's it. No more kids.
From 1986 to 1990 I worked out of my house, servicing computers in the Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan area. Then in 1990 the PCs were taking over and Cellular was taking off. They sent me to a school to learn about installing Base Stations, the radio systems that make cell phones work. From 1990 to 1992 I was out on the road Missouri, Iowa, Texas, North and South Carolina, Washington DC, California were most of the projects. Much of this time I was out on the road 10 days, and home 4. A lot of driving, and some of it flying.
In 1990 I heard of an opening in Arlington Heights IL in product quality, and took the job. It didn't include relocation, but was considered a travel job. An ongoing, temporary assignment where I'd drive in from Ft Wayne to Chicago on Monday, stay in the La Quinta near the office, and drive home on Friday.
In 1994 they wanted to consolidate our team, so they paid for relocation. Sold our house at the end of 94, spent the holidays in a beige apartmen...Expand for more
t in Schaumburg (_everything_ was beige in that apartment! we call it our beige Christmas!), and moved into our home in Lake in the Hills IL where we still live.
There's been a lot of reorgs and layoffs, but I'm still with Motorola. Working as a project manager for them, still working with the cellular part of the company. Our stock isn't great, but I still have a job.
Maxine got her Associates degree in Secondary English Education from IUPUI about the time Frankie came along, has been a domestic engineer these many years. Went back and finished her Bachelors degree in Human Services. Is looking toward her Masters and would like to work as a counselor.
What else?
In 1999 / 2000 I weighed ~260. In the early 2000's I started watching what I ate and getting a little exercise and got my weight down to 165. The highest it's been since then is ~180. Went from a size 42 pants down to 34. Not quite what I was when we got married, but close.
As for church we had been going to the Church of God of Prophecy where Maxine attended when we got married. In 2003 we started attending Christ Community Church in St Charles, IL (ccclife dot org). It's a great church, good solid teaching, great worship, many meaningful ministries reaching folks in and outside of the church.
We got involved in the Harbor Ministry as we have worked through some of the abuse we both suffered as kids. Now we're active in leading groups in Celebrate Recovery (celebraterecovery dot com) a great place to get support no matter what your hurt, habit, or hangup.
What else. . . August Rush was one of the best movies I've seen recently. The Ultimate Gift with James Garner is probably right up there. Sometime after I saw Mr Holland's Opus I looked up John Kratzat and called him in Fort Wayne.
Guess that covers most of the basic stuff for now. Maybe I'll add more later.
