CLASS OF 1970

Franklin's Story

As a lympphoma survivor (Burkett's and non-Hodgkins; going on 12 years completed), I have retired as a university professor and now farm in the Medina County area. I have learned that the written press media (with one exception: Farm and Dairy) do not even bother trying to contact you when they are writing articles about your farming operation. The three Cleveland television stations do their background before coming to interview you at the farm. The Fifth Circut Court of Appeals declared the trustee lawsuit against the Ohio Department of Agriculture as being a nuisance suit and "tossed 'em out." They upheld the district court decision. Thus, only 1 in every 100 lawsuits get tossed as a nuisnace, and the trustees' lawsuit was one of them. Currently, I am active with the Ohio Soy Bean Association (on the trustees). Please support bio-products. Also, have been selected by Ohio Farm Bureau for its 2011-12 Agri-leadership course. Have traveled with spouse and child during past 6 summers throughout Europe. At last count, have visited over 25 countries. Studied agricultural operations in many European countries...visited farms, parfume factories, and wine growing operations, grain elevators, shipping facilities, manufacturing facilities, agricultural museums, etc. Support spouse in her current role as Chairperson of the American Zoological and Aquarium Association and CEO of the Akron Zoological Park. Did spend a few years as a university student. The Ph.D. (monetary finance), M.A. (economics), and B.A. (Management, Economics) were achieved at the University of Cincinnati. The Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) was earned at The University of Akron. The Master of Laws (LL.M.) was awarded by Cleveland State University. The Master of Divinity (M.Div.) was f...Expand for more
ulfilled at Ashland University. I have a C.P.M. with lifetime designation in purchasing management fromThe Institute of Supply Management. Also, have a realtor license and auctioneer's license. As 52 year Scouter, scouting: Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Skipper...my time in cubs went from 5 adults/16 youth to 27 adults/81 youth..kids were the focus and they achieved many awards, etc...my time in scouts: 23 of the 28 youth attained the rank of Eagle (usually only 2 of 100 boys who join advance to Eagle); in sea scouts, as skipper, my youth sailed in the Koch Cup and were voted by their peers as "best colleagues" and their names are permanently inscribed on the cup; served in many Wood Badge advanced leadership courses 3 differing Scout councils, and hosted many other training courses...earned many recognitions..Baden Powell Fellowship, Silver Beaver, served as District Chair....etc......). Just wonder, we were the first class to graduate from the "new" high school. In 9 short years, we shall celebrate our 50th graduation. In my opinion, CHS was good for us. Although it was 43 years ago that I was enrolled with Mr. Rose and his French classes, I never thought that a poor boy from the hills of Applachia would ever have any need for speaking or reading this language. This sumer while vacationing with my family in France (since graduation, it's my 12th trip into France), I thought about Mr. Rose and his lessons. While not speaking like a native, my family did manage to navigate through meals, transportation, television, and print media fairly easy. Nobody can ever forget Mr. McKisik (spelling?) and his chemistry class. And so forth.... As part of celebrating our 50th class reunion, should we aim to raise $50,000 for CHS as a class of '70 legacy gift?
