Franklyn's Story

Life Introduction to Franklyn (Frank) V. Henry Hi, My name is Frank and I work for The Boeing Company as a Field Service Representative. I am 53 years old and have been working for Boeing for 27 years, of which the last 14 1/2 years have been overseas working directly with the airlines. WE lived in Thailand for 8 1/2 years then moved to Seoul, South Korea and my wife and I are currently living in Japan near Tokyo. I have been married to my wife for 31 years and have three children ages 23, 25, and 27. I am a mechanic by trade holding an FAA Aircraft maintenance license. I spent 5 years after obtaining my license working in general aviation on single engine and twin engine airplanes from antiques to modern executive twins. I moved on to work for Boeing in functional testing of the airplanes in the factory. After 2 ½ years, I was promoted from general mechanic to lead mechanic where I worked for the next 15 years. As a career move, my next step would have been to take on the job of line supervisor. Let me paint a picture here. Out of 26 supervisors in my area, all are divorced, all are heavy drinkers, all are heavy smokers and they eat from the industrial size bottle of Tums like it was candy. This is the point where I was introduced to Field Service as a career. New picture. Work location could be in the USA or overseas. Immediate supervisor is located 1 hour away by car up to 6 hours by plane. No time clocks. Field reps tend to enjoy their jobs with much lower stress and a fair amount of autonomy. Tough choice. So what do I do? My job is to work with the airline engineering and management to ans...Expand for more
wer questions, provide information on new items, and to be an ear for them to air their concerns. I act as their voice to Boeing engineering and management to make sure the airlines concerns are addressed. There is also a lot of public relations, as I am a representative not only for The Boeing Company, but for the United States as well. I help make arrangements for engineers to attend meetings and conferences and sometimes setup tour itineraries for the engineers when visiting Seattle or Long Beach. Sometimes I even go out the airplanes to assist in troubleshooting. In my spare time, I enjoy Bowling, Hiking, Camping, Biking, Driving around the USA (when I’m in town) SCUBA diving and Leather tooling. I have maintained home appliances and autos since I was 8 years old and continue today. I am a jack-of-all-trades and master of most. Since moving overseas, I have also become fairly proficient in solving computer hardware and software configuration problems. Working in Asia it can be difficult to find locals that speak enough English to discuss computer problems, as a result I learned to handle most of these problems when they arise. I have also built several computers from scratch, selecting the components to build my ultimate home computer. During my time in Asia, I have visited Bali, Singapore, The Philippines, Nepal, Shenzen China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Jakarta, Tokyo, Thailand and now Korea. Favorite places I have visited: Banff National Forest in Canada, Washington coast, Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, Chitwan National Park in Nepal, Lombok Island in Bali, and Chumphon Cabana Resort in Thailand.
