Frannie's Story
Divorced mother of 3 kids.
I am living in Calvert County and commuting to Hyattsville every day to work.
I work for Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Arts & Cultural Heritage Division as an Principal Administrative Assistant and have been there for over 23 years.
After graduation I played softball for Back Road Inn for several years. It was something I really enjoyed. I used to watch the men's league on Friday's as well. That is something I miss living in Calvert. Other than my son playing baseball, I don't know anyone who plays ball to go watch a few games.
My first job was at Breton Bay Country Club, where I got paid next to nothing to waitress. What I remember most about it is the great people I met while working there and also Cassie Reed's father giving me $20 one day just for waiting on them for several hours..
I worked as a bankteller at Pax River and in Leonardtown in the 80's and also worked as a bartender for a while to supplement my income when Robert Oswald and I separated in 1988. Bartending was a job I really liked and would do it again if I had the chance. I like talking and getting to know people. I miss Dukes Bar and Town Inn. What a difference of two worlds. But I always could mingle between the different crowds. But learned early that you can't always invite them all to one location - like my parents house the time I invited, Seventh District, Hollywood and Valley Lee people to a party.
I have an Associates degree in Management Development. Imagine me back in school! You couldn't keep me in high school. You know what they say - I wish I knew then what I know now. I would have done things a lot differently
I plan to retire and move to West Virginia where I have 6 acres of land ...Expand for more
or maybe to Washington state where my other two kids live. Everything is up in the air for now.
I enjoy shooting pool on a league in Calvert County and have been shooting since high school. I also enjoy riding motorcycles, camping, traveling and visiting my kids in Washington.
If I had one do-over in life it would have been not to get married so soon after high school. I would have gone to college or gone into the Air Force and made something of myself and traveled more.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Susan Muir, because she and I were best friends in the early 70's. She moved away and I haven't seen her since then and not heard from her since about a year after she moved. I really would love to see her again.
I haven't done a lot of traveling since I graduated. I travel to West Virginia quite often because my parents bought a place there before I got out of high school and they have since given me 6 acres of their land. I have traveled to Whistler, British Columbia, Canada with my brother and his wife one year. Have done a lot of sight seeing in Washington state since two of my kids live in Bellingham. Have also traveled to Myrtle Beach, Ocean City and MountainFest in Morgantown, WV for bike week, which have all been fun. IN Myrtle Beach I hadn't partied like that since I used to go to Leonardtown Wharf! Fantastic time. Would love to do it again but it's not the same now. MountainFest was a fun time and traveled through the farmlands in Pennsylvania as well. The countryside up there is gorgeous. Have done a lot of traveling on the back of my husband's motorcycle. I enjoying riding and hope to have my own bike some day.
In 2 years I hope to be retired and sitting on the porch of my house in West Virginia or traveling on the bike.
