Fred's Story
After graduation, I entered the Marine Corps. I served in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968. I was honorably discharged in 1972. While I was on active duty, I earned all 3 of my degrees: Electronics Engineering (AS), Computer Science (BS) and an MBA. I am also active in the North Shore Dojo in Glenview, IL (where I now live), where I earn...Expand for more
ed my Black Belt in 2018. I stared Karate classes there in 2014 at the age of 66. I take classes three days per week and help teach Karate two nights per week. I have competed in 4 USA Karate National Karate Tournaments and have medaled in every one. Unfortunately, the current COVID-19 crisis will likely cause this year's tournament (scheduled to be held in Spokane, WA) to be canceled. Whatever happens, I will continue to believe that age is just a number, not a description. I have competed in 7 National Karate Championship Tournaments, so far and have earned 10 medals. I will be competing in the next National Championship Tournament in July in Lafayette, Louisiana.
