Frederick's Story
I am from South Richmond and attended Blackwell Elementary & Junior High School. I was promoted to Armstrong High School in 1961 and graduated in 1964. I was drafted into the US Army in 1965 and was trained as a Dental Hygienist until I was honorably discharged in 1967. Upon returning back to Richmond, VA, I attended VUU & Richmond Professional Institute (VCU). I worked for the State Water Control Board for three years. At that time, my father died in 1973. After his death, I thought it was time for a change in careers. In doing so, I reenrolled in VUU and recieved a BA degree in Music Ed. Got married in 1978 to Darlene McCall. We have one daughter (Hannah Braxton) and three grandchildren( Jonathan, G...Expand for more
abrielle & Isaiah). I was hired by Beaumont learning Center (State) and taught for four years. After which I transferred to RPS, where I retired after 37 years. While working as a teacher, I was also called to preach and attended the seminary at VUU recieving a Master of Divinity in 2009. I was sent to pastor from 2010 - 2017 at the Mt. Sinai Holy Temple, Gum Springs, VA. At present, I am retired from teaching and pastoring. First Baptist Church on Monument Ave. in the city is my new church home, Dr. James Sommerville is the senior pastor. To stay active in churchlife, I joined the Senior Choir and attend Sunday School Class.
My experiences at Armstrong High School were most memorable and enjoyable.
