Mark's Story

After graduation from Monroe I went to Navy boot camp as many other did. After boot camp I changed over to the Navy aviation program. I had been going with high school classmate Cindy (Vega) at that time and anticipated marriage in our future. I felt that if I went ahead with my enlistment active duty I would not be able to finish college when getting out of the Navy being married. The aviation program deferred active duty until after college was completed. During two college summers I went to Pensacola, Florida for the related Officer Candidate boot camp components. Cindy and I got married in 31-Aug-1968 while I was finishing up junior college there in the valley. The next school year I transferred to Cal-Poly in San Luis Obispo, graduating as an Industrial Engineer. We have two sons, one a chemist and the other a chef. Neither are currently married and we have no grandchildren. I guess for compensation we have three dogs, two Jack Russells and a dapple dachshund, along with two horses. We live on a small farm inside the city limits of Jacksonville, Florida. After college graduation I went to Navy flight school and, after two-years traveling between Pensacola, Florida, Corpus Christi, Texas, and San Jose, CA, I was awarded my Naval Aviator wings. We stayed in, retiring in May 1991. Duty Stations included Barbers Point, Hawaii, Monterey, CA for Postgraduate school (Systems Engineering), Adak, Alaska, Warminster, PA, concluding in Jacksonville, FL. While in the Navy I changed designators from a pilot (1310) to an Aeronautical Engineering Duty Officer (1510) but remained functioning as a pilot in that designation. That designation is rather competitive, involving, at that time, approx. 350 officers responsible for the R&D, development, production, deployment, and life-cycle management for all naval air related weapons systems. It is now referred to as Aerospace Engineering Duty Officer. In that capacity I was the program manager for a ship-based command and control systems for carrier based aircraft (Warminster, PA) and the project manager for the overhaul and repair...Expand for more
of aircraft, including all their components (Jacksonville, FL). The Jacksonville duty station was a Naval Aviation Depot, essentially a fully functioning aircraft industrial facility. During that tour I applied my Industrial Engineer training getting them to use proper schedule techniques for capacity planning and to plan the work through the plant. Doing that I introduced critical path method planning (CPM) into to the organization, implementing this with the new Primavera software package which I interface with the Sperry Univac based workload management system. Because of these initiatives I then held a record for continues service in a single Navy organization (UIC) through their request for me to remain on site. My tour in Jacksonville lasted eight-years, concluding with my retirement. Throughout our Navy career Cindy was a homemaker but also a commercial print model for a few years and a makeup artist for Lancome during our Jacksonville tour. She is a horse owner (2) and active rider in the dressage riding style. She also became an ordained minister during that tour, primarily focusing her ministry as a Bible study teacher. We are both actively involved in Christian activities, primarily involved in what is referred to as the charismatic movement, currently attending Mandarin Assembly of God. Upon Navy retirement in 1991 I started my own business helping large organization implement and integrate Primavera as a certified consultant, mostly performing as one of few direct subcontractors for Primavera. I primarily operate in the eastern half of the US but I have also worked engagements in Canada, France, Singapore, South Africa, and Switzerland. For the last several years Primavera has been the project management product of choice for all large projects worldwide. In recognition of this Oracle Corporation purchased Primavera. I have since achieved full accreditation with Oracle Primavera as an authorized Vendor and Contractor providing services to Oracle Primavera, and an Oracle Gold Partner, also having an active Services Provider Agreement with Oracle USA, Inc.
