GEORGE ANTHONY CUMPTON aka TONY CUMPTON was born in Ashland, Kentucky on June 6th, 1954. He began as a young child his god-given talent of drawing dating back in grade school days. Recalls in the sixth grade of drawing the Russell Central Elementary School for one its weekly school menu, using a stylus for a duplicator machine.
At the age of fifteen his father started a printing business that enabled him to expand his artwork in the commercial printing field. He has illustrated poem books dating back in his high school days.
On June 2nd, 1975 he hired on the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad as a railway clerk. Co-workers picked up on his talent and encouraged him to do limited edition prints so all can enjoy his artwork.
His favorite medium is pen and ink artwork that has stretched over decades and lately digitally penned art on the computer. His earliest limited editions were drawn on...Expand for more
poster board with just a Bic pen. He began to make some money to buy technical pens and drafting gear. Today he enjoys drawing on software programs such as Microsoft Paint to help him get the detail due to his failing eyesight.
In 1980 he started the business "Tony Cumpton Prints" and over the years have enjoyed drawing of country and religious, railroad art, school art, and commercial logos. He has mailed limited edition prints to thirty states to several hundred patrons.
He has been honored with write-ups and press releases dating back to the seventies: Hearthstone (Fall 1980), Ashland Daily Independent (10/07/1979, 04/25/1980, 11/15/1990, 05/27/2004, 01/12/2005), Journal Times (10/09/1979), Chessie News November 1981), Greenup News (06/02/1980, 02/02/1981), The Beacon (04/09/2013),Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, etc.
The artist maintains a registration ledger of the limited edition signed and numbered prints and the signed only prints. He hopes you enjoy his artwork.
On May 26, 2004, Tony Cumpton was honored to unveil a road marker of the Raceland Racetrack near the old clubhouse on US 23, Raceland, Kentucky. His design is featured on this marker.".
