Gail's Story
Life
After high school, I worked and eventually earned a bachelor's degree from the University of New Orleans, a Masters in Public Health from Tulane School of Public Health, and a Juris Doctor from Tulane Law School.
Immediately after law school, I spent a year as a judicial law clerk to the late Judge John Minor Wisdom on the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit in New Orleans. The following year, I served as a law clerk to the late Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court of the United States. It was her fourth year on the Supreme Court. At the completion of that clerkship year, I returned to New Orleans and began practicing law.

d, CT, I became a law professor at the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill. In July 2006, I became the dean at the University of Kansas Law School in Lawrence, KS. On July 1, 2010, I became dean at the University of Iowa College of Law. I stepped down as dean in June 2018 when my husband retired. I retired the following year. After retirement, we moved to Durham, North Caroline, to be near my sister and her family.
I have been married to Naurang Agrawal, a physician from Bombay, India, since 1975. He spent his career teaching and practicing in the field of gastroenterology. Over the years, we have traveled around the world and lived in 5 different states. I could not have imagined the life we’ve lived, so far, when I was in high school.
