Gail's Story

Life Wow, How to start. Well I'll confess, I never liked school. But I thank the Lord that I had a mother who kept a gun to my back. LOL I did like the other students and teachers. Sorry to all of you who had to put up with me disrupting the classroom. I had a very hard time focusing and sitting so long. I practiced holding my breath watching the clock, I got pretty good. I married the guy I hung out with. Les brown. We stayed married for 30 years. Most people gave us 6 months so we did pretty good. We married young. In 1971 I was attending the OC nursing program. And yes my Mom still had the gun to my back. I'm pretty stubborn, but she is more....I got PG and dropped out for 6 mos, then went back and got my licence. I was able to stay home and raise Hayley 33, Matthew 31, Melanie who was 4 when she died in a drowning accident. She would be 26 this year. We then had Paul 14, and Micheal who is 12. The biggest and most profound thing that has happened to me is accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. My husband teased me and said well, it's better to be a Jesus freak then a drug freak. lol. That was way back. The Lord changed my life. I went from lost, lonely, hopeless, not knowing what life was about. I saw friend's dying, addicted to all kind of things, I was striving to try and staighten out my life, but unable to do so. I had a christian Grandma. She always seemed so full of joy and she was content. I knew she had something that I needed. Ephesians "For by grace are ye saved thru FAITH and that not of yourselves, it is a GIFT from God not of works lest any man should boast." I read Romans 10:13 For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved." I remember the day an older man, standing in front of Booth's Drug store on the corner of 5th and Pacific, handing out tracks. I was around 17 maybe.I got home, went to my bedroom and read the material. I compared the material to a little white Bible the Gideons had given Mom at work. The lord had been working on my heart for a long time.I knew I was a sinner. I got on my knees and asked the Lord to forgive me of my terrible sins and come into my heart and save me. The wonderful part is that He did. My life has not been easy, but I thank the lord He has been with me all the way. In 2001 I was diagnosed with Hep c. My DR. started me on a treatment of Pegatron ( a weekly shot)and ribavirin ( daily pills). It was a 48 week TX. It is chemo. What a battle. I no longer have the virus. I'm in remission. The fact is, it probably won't come back according to the DR's. I had a 50% chance of being cured because the type of Hep c I had. I was surprized at how many people my age have ...Expand for more
or had it. I'm glad it's gone, but even if it wasn't God would still be good. I'm still recuping from the tx and getting better slowly. God bless you all. Gail Brown School I had a crush on 5-6 different guys. I'll have to remember their names LOL Oh yes Pat Smith....He came from the Catholic school. Gary Clauson, I'll give the rest later. My favorite teachers who had an impact on me Mr. Furseth, Mr. Kluth, Mr. Bidwell, Workplace My first job was at Grahms drivein. My sister Roxanne, worked there and got me the job. I remember bringing a tray out to a couple who had been to a prom and I dumped the tray all over the guys tux. His girl friend laughed so hard that he didn't get mad. I only worked there one summer. I baby sat lots. I loved babies. I worked at Harrison Hosp for one year in 74-75. I was able to stay home and take care of the house and the kids. 1989 I started working as an LPN at Resthaven nursing home. It's behind the Burger King on Kitsap way. I loved my job. I was there going on 8 years. In 1998 I went to work for the state of WA at Frances Hadden Morgan Center. It is located on Marion Ave/ and 6th St. 56 clients live there. We also take in respites.( a place where disabled children can spend some time to give the family a break) It started out as a facility for autistic children, to get them to be able to live in the community. There are many different degree's of autistism, most of our clients have multiple problems besides autism. I loved working there and got to know the clients well. The clients are no longer children. They are in there 30's. Most of them won't ever live in the community. Some have moved to group home where it is more like home. It is a very nice place where the clients live in duplex type units. There are 16 clients per building with each client having there own bedroom, or sharing with one other client. They have their own living room, bedroom, and dining room. They share a kitchen which is in the middle. My son Matthew, started working there when he was 18. He talked me into going to work there as a nurse. Matthew was a resident life staff for 5 years. They work directly with the clients. He loved working there but now works at Ace Paving. My daughter Hayley moved back to Bremerton in 1998 and also works at the center as an RN. They have about 150 employees and since it's a state Job there are excellant benefits. The pay is also good. We have many retired Navy men working there. It's a good place to apply as the first step is called trainee. Its a one year training program. They kinda just put you in there and the staff mentors the new employees. It is a very interesting job. Very rewarding.
