Gail's Story

I hope my friends remember that I was thin & pretty, and an excellent journalist & writer. In high school, I was the News Editor & the editor for the Literary Magazine Of Pen & Ink. My family is still encouraging me to write & I actually got a short story published in the Fay Observer in July, 2009! So, I am on my way! I am now divorced, looking to get thin again (as I have gained an enormous amount of weight). I have my Masters in Counseling & live in Chatham County. I have 2 cats & 1 dog. A grown son, Ryan, age 24, who is the apple of my eye. He lives in Apex. I miss the days at Douglas Byrd. At the time I was dating Larry Z. We actually got married, but it did not last. That broke my heart, but I have moved on. So, I have fond memories of DBHS...the prom, the games, the commons area, people watching, the teachers, Mr. Jackson, Paris Jones, Mr. Pearce, (10th grade English),who I understand is now deceased,...Expand for more
& Mrs. Sherri Smith, my 12 grade English teacher. She was a great influence on me regarding English, etc. Mark, my older brother (Class of '73) has 1 son and 1 daughter & his son's wife gave birth to thier first baby girl last August, so Mark is a grandpa. Larry (Class of '76) has 1 son & 1 daughter. He & his wife live in OK. Dennis (Class of '77) lives in Cary & is doing great. We all had a chance to be together in July for our mom's 80th birthday. We lost our dad 6 years ago. SO, that is me & my sibs. What is everyone else up to? I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a fantastic idea. As it turns out, they were right about going to school & I got my degree from East Carolina, went on to the University of Louisville & got my Masters in Educational Psychology. So, I have been a counselor (and am now a clinical supervisor) for over 25 years. Love counseling.

I think it is going to be my season of reaping what I have sown through patience (which has not been easy, self-love, and perseverance!) Thank you, Jesus.
Thinking about how Hump Day is going to go for her. She says,

My wonderful friend gave me this plaque in memory of my Mom.
