Gail's Story
After A&D I took my scholarship to Parsons and switched from fashion illustration to general illustration. The handwriting was on the wall that photography was taking the place of elegant fashion sketches in advertising. When the New School absorbed Parson's. my scholarship ended,I got married and needed to find steady work.I wound up designing art for a screen print studio. After I had my first son, Matt I was offered a job with a baby wear company. Here, illustration skills became developed with designing appliqués. embroideries and screen prints for newborn. When Jesse came along.I took a 4 year break and became a school volunteer. I then expanded into designing the apparel.I worked with JCPenney, Sears and Bradlees. I designed baby gifts for Sesame workshop, Martha Stewart, and Target.
During my 10 years as senior artist/ designer for Bon Bebe, I traveled to Taipei,Hong Kong China,Tokyo& Bangkok.
I attended childrens' trade shows in Florence italy, shopped Barcelona, Paris ,London, and Cologne Germany.
I took 2 ...Expand for more
personal journeys to Bali ,Indonesia and surrounding islands and gave villagers donated baby items.
After all those years centered in Manhattan, things shifted. My husband converted our garage into an art studio. This is a dream come true .Illustrivity Design studio is where I now have a freelance design career.I still design playwear for a baby wear company. I also contribute to Dollie and me , a company that does matching doll and girl clothes.
Three years ago, another alumnus, Marlene Kaplan, asked me to start teaching at the school she owns, Artisan Studio in Marlboro, New Jersey.I absolutely love it! I teach 2 classes, Young Artisans and Future Fashionistas.I also teach a few students privately in my Illustrivity Design studio.
I was a former Vp of the alumni Association and have been on the board of directors for
the past 2 years. I organized the class of 1969 45 reunion last year and soon will be sending out notices for our 46 anniversary!
\I hope some of you will join us as it was a small but warm group!
